Subject: New Week
Well spring has finally arrived here, daffodils are all in bloom, cherry
blossoms are starting to come out and it will be in the 70's all week.
Spring in this area is truly the prettiest time of year. That book
I read recently was Distraction by Bruce Sterling. I went to the
ear doctor yesterday and he said the hole in my eardrum has all healed
up. He did say there was some scar tissue around the hole and said
I should have it checked out again in a couple of months. The
ringing is still there, he said he couldn't do anything about it and it
might/could go away but then again it may not. He also said that I
should have my ear checked out before I go diving. I haven't been
diving in a couple of years and don't have any plans to do so anytime
soon so that should be a problem. We submitted the proposal for
the new imaging projects yesterday and the ATF expects that we should
get the money early in April. That should make work pick up again.
I have been having fun playing with different web technologies the last
couple of weeks but it will be good to have a real contract to bill to.
That's about all for now, Larry.
Not having a contract to bill hours to was a problem as you were considered “overhead” which ate into the profits of the company. For someone of my salary, that was not good and if it went on too long, they would lay people off. Fortunately, I was considered a “key employee” due to my technical skills and since I was l specified as such in the technical proposal they had submitted to the ATF, they had to keep me around until they won the contract. If they didn’t get the contract, I would likely to get laid off. But the way it is working for a company that does contracting work.
