I imagine you had a wonderful time away. I envy you. I took
so much time off during exam week, that I haven't asked to take more,
even though I have lots of hours. Was it cool at all in the
mountains? Deadly hot here--deadly. I finished my exams last
Fri. a week ago. That weekend--I can't remember what I've wrote
you--I saw three movies--Blair Witch Project--The Iron Giant--The Thomas
Crown affair. I actually liked The Iron Giant best. It is
from a children's book. I went to the bookstore and read it later
after the movie, but I think I liked the movie version best. Blair
Witch I went to just because everybody was talking about it and the
people who did it had their faces on the cover of every major magazine.
A friend of mine from Florida said it was UCF students who did Blair
Witch, for a student project. Otherwise, I'm trying to read, but
my mind is still fried.
I'm second in line for Hannibal (the follow-up to Silence of the Lambs)
at the public library--I was hoping I would get it for the break, but
someone got ahead of me for reserve. I'm also reading the new book
by Guterson who wrote Snow Falling on Cedars. It took me a long
time to get through that book, but it was so good--its a little more
"literary" than what I usually read. Actually I balance a little,
but with school, I can whip through a popular book, but others take me
longer. Also, my first weekend off I went to a ballet program.
It was free (rare for Montgomery), but that is because it was sort of a
"vanity" program for parents etc., as it was students from a local
company. Nevertheless, I enjoyed it. Also, it is sort of
"grounding" for me to be out and around people and children after three
semesters of law school. Its such a different reality. I get
so immersed in law school. But, when I go out and see how "other
people" are spending their lives, I get reaffirmed about mine. The
ballet did one act of Sleeping Beauty. Remember when you did
ballet, and that student you went out with. Well, a long time ago.
Wow, saw the paper this morning--the Navy is predicting water crises for
Montgomery due to Y2k. I better start saving my milk jugs. Next
Saturday I am going to a training session with "Water Watch" with some
Sierra people. Its a long session to train some of us to monitor
water quality. I'll be stage one certified. I think they
will want me to take a stream or lake and do a monthly report. I
told them that with law school, sometimes things went crazy and I had no
time, but they said there was some flexibility (apparently you need to
go at apprx. the same time of day and regularly, to keep the variables
down). Anyway, it will give me a chance to do something different,
and I'm glad it doesn't conflict
with school, which starts TOO SOON. Elizabeth
