Its good to hear from you. Work has been erratic--nothing for
hours then a flood of calls. Two days in a row I had all morning
"empty" (going crazy) then at 2:00 (I leave at 4:30) everybody and their
brother called. The weather here is nice too. Have any of
the cities you've visited appealed to you? Or, do you consider
yourself pretty much a resident of D.C. for the long term. I
wasn't certain how much you marriage and D.C. were blended, although
you've said many times you love the city and seemed to have adapted very
well and love it (at least if the picture you paint of the bike rides,
etc. is accurate). I spent a restless night. I've written
briefly at times about the ABA accreditation. We finally got the
Dean to speak to us. I didn't like his attitude at all.
There is still a REMOTE chance I might get an ABA degree (I think I've
explained the significance of that--for example NONE of the D.C. jobs
would even look at me, without the ABA degree--all those thousands of
gov. jobs.) One very distressful side of the Dean's talk is that
tuition is most likely taking an ENORMOUS jump almost immediately, and
will continue to rise dramatically. Right now its about 6000
yr--it will go up--are you ready--to 9000 THIS coming next term--then
start rising to--are you ready--15,000. That's because it is a
private school. I'm pretty upset. I will no longer be able
to take three courses (even though I had almost decided that for stress
reasons I would only be taking two). BUT this means, the longer I
take the HIGHER the cost. A course I didn't take this term, NOW
will cost me several HUNDRED dollars more to take NEXT fall.
We've never talked salaries, but I imagine you make good. Alabama
pays low to begin with; and Montgomery lower than some other parts of
Alabama. I truthfully do not make "much." In fact if I
examine it is pathetic. I was looking at this home my prof just
moved into--"the higher end of the 200,000's--which is a lot in this
area. You can get a CASTLE--and they look that way. There
are alot of homes in Mont. that look really like castles--but they still
are only (ONLY HA) in the 250-300,000 range. Well, I need to not
get upset. I woke up with an upset stomach from being so agitated
all night. Elizabeth
