I am somewhat where I want to be in life but there are some short
comings that I am disappointed in (marriage mostly). Salary and
job wise I'm where I expected. Technical manager, supervising 5-10
people (I don't really want any more!). Salary, I've done OK, I
make around $85,000. Sounds like a lot but up here with state
taxes, count taxes, high price for housing, etc. it only OK. I
live comfortably and pretty much don't have to worry much about money.
Julie and I together made over $100,000 which is a lot better for two
living together than one on $85K. On the other hand I only have
about $60K in my retirement which, if I retired, wouldn't even last a
year. That means that I will probably will have to work past the
age of 65 to retire. That's a bummer. I can pretty much
compartmentalize my feelings at work and home so at work I do pretty
well emotionally. At home it is a different story, I also am
somewhat depressed. With racquetball three nights a week and yoga
two I don't get home until 8 or 9 which helps. Tuesday night I
don't have anything which come January I plan to fill with another yoga
class. So I get home and spend some time with the cats, they
really help allot, they make good company but they don't have much to
say. I usually will have a glass (or two) of wine, (a couple of
beers on Friday after racquetball), watch a bit of TV and go to bed.
I haven't even felt much like reading, my magazines are pilling up and
the book about Japan has been setting 1/4 read. I am looking into
starting a couple of projects the winter but haven't started them yet.
I particularly don't look forward to the upcoming holidays.
Thanksgiving and Christmas I've always spent with family. Maybe
once or twice I haven't but for 47 year I mostly have. This year it will
just be me. I might spend a little time with Anne but it won't be
much. Over the Thanksgiving weekend I plan to go see the new
Smithsonian Galapous Island exhibit. Christmas, well I'm not sure
perhaps go camping or start one of those projects. So as you can
see all is not well with me but I do keep on plugging on.
