Right, I find it hard sometimes to interpret "messages" people might be
sending me. For example, my prof/friend and I exchanged some
really serious e-mail about teaching, learning, even about having an
e-mail "friendship" (which he labelled virtual) and then also our
student-prof relationship. Then, he seemed to just stop e-mailing.
At first I thought it was because we had been meeting a couple of times
and talking in person and that maybe he actually preferred that to
e-mail. I "vowed" to stop e-mailing, but I rather enjoyed it, so
I've sent a few messages--but infrequently--all of which he has not
answered. Then, though, recently we had this wonderful after class
talk which was quite lengthy, and he seems/seemed warm, receptive,
friendly. I mean I saw "no sign" of "get lost." That is the
ONLY reason I went ahead and sent a few more e-mails, because I thought
to myself that I was reacting to something which doesn't seem "right"
when I see him in person. I guess I liked the e-mails because of
isolation and boredom at work, the same reasons I enjoy hearing from
you, plus I learn things, both from you and him. I e-mail a "secretary"
friend of mine really regularly, but she--I don't exactly know how to
put it--many of our interests are not the same. She is married and
has a totally different life than I have. She doesn't go to
movies, and seldom reads. Oh well. You got me interested in
hiking Old Rag. I'm still in a piss ant mood. I just looked
through the paper on my break for "things I might like to do." Do
I want to go to the ANNUAL zoo lights festival--can't quite get into it,
or the ANNUAL people Christmas tree--I don't think so. I'm about
to go crazy.
Don't want to take off without any "real" plans, although I could
certainly use the time in my apt.--but I don't want to go home and
"clean." My secretary friends gets off just like you today and
doesn't have to go back until the 3rd. One perk of a state job.
I'm actually about to go crazy and feel like "bolting." Weather is
getting cold, rainy, and bad though, probably tonight. I don't
know--does the yoga instructor--I guess she hasn't--ever invited you to
do something, which fits her schedule. My "prof" is most likely on
vacation. He's a big hunter, and could be taking advantage of his
days off. The profs don't have a great deal of time off either.
After finals, they have 100+ essay exams to grade, and then have to be
ready to teach a new class come Jan. 3. Of course, I envy the free
time during the day. Well, write if you can--I am so bored, and
you seem to be one of the few contacts I have lately. My job here
is so isolated. Elizabeth
