Well, congratulations on the AOL offer. Is this another e-mail
address change? What part of "the city" will you be working in?
The stock will probably make up the difference. Plus to me, it
sounds more "secure" in terms of not being a contract position. You
probably know Clinton came to Alabama. In the big picture in the
paper this morning, he looked RADIANT.
I read in the paper about preparations for his visit. The security
was enormous. Some sort of lunatic fringe Confederate flag march
just so happened to be scheduled this weekend as well. Clinton
landed at the Air Force base here in town, then took a copter to Selma,
just a short distance.
No one was allowed NEAR the base (it is practically downtown) and
sharpshooters were everywhere. Pitch Black is the movie I had been
seeing promoted. There is another one soon though on Mars. I
was totally shocked at who is directing it, but I can't remember who
that is right now. I recall it blew me away--a big name, but not,
you would think, for that kind of film. --A down sort of Friday as I
lost a filling or something and had to make a dental appointment this
morning. My dentist is in Tuscaloosa. I haven't changed to
one here because he is so good. For some reason, not just because
it is a dental appointment, I'm NOT looking forward to the drive.
Usually I've liked it. There is a wonderful place to eat breakfast
there.--I had a tame weekend, but I did get to watch some of the stored
up videos I have taped over the months. I discovered one gem--a
PBS mystery I had taped which I didn't know I had. (Lately I'm really
moving towards liking English mystery books and shows.) It was very
good. I also watched a very long PBS show on the U.S. Mexican war.
That was incredibly good too.
I did not know that Robert E. Lee was an engineer, and during that war
he really did some major heroic things, charting paths through
impenetrable country (such as a "lava field" in Mexico).--I also got a
little gloomy this weekend over the "bar exam." I've been
dedicating every Sunday afternoon for about the past month to going to
the library and JUST trying to organize materials for the bar.
While there I found stats on the exam which was just given and
graded--our school's pass rate REALLY dropped--it was only 37%.
Of interest though is ALL schools dropped. University of Alabama
where I have applied usually has a pass rate bordering in the very high
90's, even 99%. It dropped to the high 80's, but ours dropped from
47% to 37%. It is a JOB though. The material is MASSIVE,
which is why I'm starting now, even though I still have many major
courses to go. Congratulations on your job offer. I think it
always feels good to get something you really want, as you do sound
quite happy about it. Elizabeth
P.S. Incidentally--even though I haven't heard from UA, I've just about
decided to stay here and finish my degree. The factors for staying
are pretty strong. But, I don't know if they have or will even
accept me anyways, and if they do, I may change my mind and go.
Also, it just FEELS like I may have made up my mind. I think its
an "old" decision, i.e. one I'm making from an "old" versus a "young"
perspective. Its things like income, retirement, dental insurance,
health insurance--I just don't know if I can comfortably cut myself
loose and have nothing and be a "pure" student again. Here, I
could comfortably "finish" and study and pass the bar. The rub
though is "what do I do then." I need to look closer into whether
I could qualify for federal positions. Elizabeth
