This has probably been the worst year of my life, basically centering on "unemployment," and right now I don't see any change on the immediate horizon, i.e. the next few weeks.  The governor and legislature are in a deadlock about approving the state budget for July 1, 2009, so right now every state employer is "on hold."  Teachers for August haven't even gotten their contracts yet.  The deadlock is over insufficient money to cover what is in the budget.  When asked this morning if the entire state might shut down on July 1st, he didn't rule it out.  I've got tons of applications in, mostly for junior college teaching positions, but also a few state or country library positions, but no one seems to be taking moves to hire.
 
Incidentally, I keep this off FaceBook.  I just discuss it privately.
 
Have you seen or used the new Wolfram Alpha search engine?  I wasn't too impressed, but maybe I wasn't asking the right types of questions.
