Elizabeth,
Wow, that was a lot of ruminating, wondering and reflection. Thank
you for telling me that you thought I was of the most interesting and
fascinating people you have known. I have always wondered about
what you thought of me and I was a bit surprised to hear that.
About some of the things you said…
Actually I surprised my marriage lasted as long as it did. I think
I knew after few years that it would last but we both tried to make it
work. There were things we both got from each other but over all
we were not really compatible. An example was I feel a need to
help and take care of someone and Julie needed taken care of.
Julie also never had a really stable family life and in me she found
stability. One of your comments and observations about me also
played out a part in my relationship with Julie. I do see myself
as independent and not “needing” anyone. On the other hand I want
and enjoy being with someone as it makes life more full. In the
last few years Julie and I went to couples therapy and one of the things
that came out was she didn’t feel needed by me. Well she was
right, but I chose to be with her for 20 years. On the dating
site, Chemistry, I say in my profile I don’t want a woman that “needs” a
relationship but “wants” a relationship. You were right about my
family, or at least my mother, not approving of you. She has never
seem to approve of women I have date including Julie which was a long
sore point in our relationship. My mother always had this picture
of me in her mind of me marrying a nice Christian girl, going to church
and having a bunch of kids. Oh, well, we have to live our own life
and which is not necessarily what our parents want. Staying
physically fit is important to me and so I work at it. As I get
older it I, of course, can’t do the things I could do when I was
younger. That is one thing that is so great about yoga, one can do
it into old age. I heard about a recent study that they found that
yoga is not only good for your joints and muscles, but for your arteries
as well
Sorry to hear you are not well and hope you get better soon.
Take care,
Larry
