Hello Larry,
It is interesting the different perspectives we have on "life." I
have frequently heard or read the phrase you quoted. Sometimes
counselors or self help advocates will use it for people who get stuck
in a perpetual mode of whining about the past.
I delayed awhile before responding to your email, because I didn't want
to continue disputing over our different viewpoints. Then I had a
few weeks of things to deal with on the home front (a major disturbance
of peace issue with a neighbor which ended up in court) and until now I
didn't have a reflective moment in which to reply. I was then
surprised to find that almost a month has passed since your email.
Our exchanges often "sink" anyway though, although more often from your
side than mine, but I guess this time I'm responsible for a long lull.
I just planned a trip to the Canadian Rockies in September. I've
taken several trips with Roadscholar (formerly Elderhostel), and enjoyed
them all. I find that their group trips take much of the planning
burden off my shoulders, while also usually giving me with some flex
time or private time, especially since I get a single room (which
unfortunately jacks up the price however). Also, I feel safer
overall being with experienced group leaders. I'm hoping to
possibly see the Northern Lights on the trip, although that isn't billed
as one of the highlights. Because of the solar cycle, as it
relates to the Lights, from now onward for awhile, the frequency of
visibility may start to diminish, so 2017 is being touted as one of the
last best chances to see them. So in terms of bucket lists, I
thought I'd give seeing them a shot. A more sure fire choice might have
been Norway, but other than the Lights, I don't have that much interest
in Norway, although I'd love to go to Copenhagen in Denmark.
The past week or so I watched "Nocturnal Animals" and also "Lion."
The first sort of harks back to our discussion about the past and how to
deal with it or view it. One of the characters dealt with it in a
rather unique way in the film, although I found the director's
discussion helpful in fully understanding all the facets of that.
Hope things are o.k. in your dimension of the universe!
Elizabeth
