Subject: Re: Just Curious What
Your Thoughts Are
Hello,
I just wanted to let you know that my box arrived Wednesday, but it
didn't come until almost 9 p.m., so I didn't have time to do much with
it that day. I knew it would arrive late in the day, because FedEx
never comes until at least 5-6 p.m. This was a bit later than
usual, however.
It was fun unpacking it, and still quite cold. Since it was so
late and the cold packs were still so cold, I threw the meats in a big
cooler to deal with the next morning, but separated out the vegetables
and smaller items.
Thursday evening I decided to first make just the curry part of the
"catfish and curry" dish, as I hardly ever fry foods, and the recipe
called for frying the fish. I had planned to bake the fish at the
same time, but I found the curry had a fair amount of prep and cooking
time, so I just stuck with doing that for a meal. The curry when
finished produced a mountain of food, four or five cereal bowls full, so
I was glad I didn't also cook the fish.
I didn't know that many Indian curries use alot of potatoes. I was
curious about that, so after looking at the recipe I read a bit about
curries and found that in Northern India almost every curry has
potatoes. Because of the potatoes, while thje recipe was an interesting
dish, it was rather thick and starchy, more like a stew. That was
a learning experience because I've always said I like curries, but maybe
what I actually like are the spices. I haven't bought white
potatoes in years now. I went ahead and added some curry powder
and turmeric to the recipe after my first sampling, because otherwise
the flavor was fairly subtle.
Anyway, it was a fun experience, and I learned some things about
cooking, so thanks again for thinking of me.
I don't have much planned for the weekend. Neftlix just released
the new streaming season of "House of Cards," so I'll probably watch
that. I also recently found a new mystery writer I liked and am
finishing his third book, and picked up the fourth from the library on
Thursday, along with a new DVD that sounded interesting. I need to
mow grass, but it still hasn't dried out enough from all the rain.
What are you reading lately? Other than mysteries, I'm still
reading here and there in quantum physics. I try to avoid the over
popularized fluff books, but then the textbooks are sometimes to
mathematical. Right now I'm reading Unveiling the Edge of Time.
Even though written for a popular audience, the writer does have an
astrophysics doctorate. Incidentally, did you read Seveneves by Neal
Stephenson. Typical of him, it was a massive book which took me
weeks to read, and when the storyline finally pulled together near the
end of the book, I found it a worthwhile read. I read that
President Obama had it on his reading list while he was still in office.
I thought "good luck" on finding the time to read it. He is quite
a book reader though, as is/was Bill Clinton. Apparently the
current president doesn't read at all, at least books apparently.
