Light
Fairly recently, a female faculty member and I began to talk about
traveling together, in part because we had similar interests in nature
and the environment and somewhat similar interests about places we
wanted to visit. She was married, but basically lived alone, as
she and her husband pursued separate careers in different states, with
him in California and her in Mississippi. She also recently
retired.
I could tell traveling together with her would not work well for me
though. She was very gracious and let me stay with her for four weeks
after my knee surgeries, because she had a huge empty master bedroom,
which technically was her husband's. Also, she had had orthopedic
surgery herself so knew the ropes of recovery. I did alot of
adjusting to live in her place for four weeks, and I imagine she did
some adjusting as well, but many of her personal habits and behaviors
worried me for possibly traveling together.
For example, she wanted to go to Costa Rico and rent a car to drive to
the nature preserves, but when she took me to and from the hospital,
and took me on a few errands afterwards, I was totally petrified at her
driving, which to me was extremely erratic and often careless.
And, I wasn't interested in doing the driving myself. She
also was extremely messy and totally disorganized, constantly
mis-placing stuff. During my stay with her, at various times, I
helped her look for her lost or misplaced wallet, phone, car keys,
credit card, and important school papers!
I have a play ticket for this afternoon, at a theatre in the suburbs of
Jackson, which means blessedly that I don't have to actually go into
Jackson, which I detest doing. However, early Thursday morning I
had a medical scare as I got up in the very early a.m. to put some
eyedrops in my eyes and had a profound episode of whirling vertigo when
I tilted back my head. I got into my physician's office at 8:00
a.m. and he said it is "benign positional vertigo," which results when a
bit of calcium crystal in the ear dislodges and disrupts the signals
from the ear to the brain. He also said it is "age related" and
more common in women. LOL. It is a mechanical problem and
exercises can be used to re-position the crystal so it will dissolve and
go away, but I've been doing them, and it leaves me feeling a bit
whoozy. The vertigo is not ongoing, but only comes on when the head is
moved abruptly, so walking and driving are basically o.k.--as long as I
don't bend over to pick something up from the floor or floorboard.
Still, I'm a bit off, so I'm debating whether to go or not, but it is
makes me feel more off to think I might miss the play--or plays actually
because it is a series of one act plays, not one long play.
Have a pleasant Sunday yourself though! Did you hear or read where
Amazon might start a business to compete with Blue Apron! It
caused their stock to fall!
