Christmas

From Mom's remembering...

At Christmas time Morris had his shoulder operated on. He had hurt it last year when he was thrown off his Moped while we were camping with the Happy Sams. We had a hard freeze Christmas eve and I had to climb up on the roof of the house and pick all of the grapefruit because Morris just knew the freeze would kill all of them. It was freezing cold out and I nearly froze getting every last one of them. Sure enough it did kill the tree. Beth, Mark and Zackary came from Jacksonville for Christmas dinner. I gave Beth long red underwear which she loved. David was in Michigan and Larry and Julie stayed home. What a change from last year when I had a house full.

Elizabeth

The last day of the year Elizabeth wrote me a letter that I received the first week of the new year.  Elizabeth had made the move to Tampa where she was going to the University of South Florida.  She wrote:

Dear Larry,

How are you doing?  I sent out cards for Christmas and then remember I “forgot” you!!  Mostly it was because I just flip though my address book as a mailing list and your address was in another place.  Where did you spend Christmas? It was certainly cold everywhere. Did you and you family go to your home in Gainesville?  I spent the holiday here in Tampa, quiet, often a little boring.  I just completed the first semester of the PH.D. program at Univ. of South Fla. In clinical psychology.  Its rough and I don’t enjoy being in school, partially because there is so much work required that I can’t do any leisure reading on my own, nor fid time to listen to music, or even sometimes relax.  Very unlike undergraduate school.  Are still with Harris?  Sometimes I miss Gainesville, things like bike riding and concerts. But I think it was an “era” not a place, per se.  Let me know how you’re doing.
