With the OfficePower division now as part of ICL things were looking positive. Some of the ICL technical and management staff flew over from England and spent a few days meeting the people and making plans. They seem nice enough “blokes” as they would say in their UK English and seemed easy enough to work with. It was mostly the OfficePower management team that interacted with the ICL team, I didn’t have much interaction with them other than an occasional conference call to report status.
A new major release of OfficePower was underdevelopment and translations to additional languages were being worked on. With new releases in the works, Julie’s QA group added several new members and our first release of PowerWindows was being beta tested at one of the law firms.
------
One of the biggest problems for PowerWindows was memory limitations of Windows 2.0. We had a Microsoft Windows developer license which allowed us to get beta releases and so when Windows 3.0, was released in May of 1990 which provided a significant improvement and we quickly required it for PowerWindows.
In 1991, Microsoft WinWord 2.0 was released for Windows 3.0 which quickly became popular soon supplanting WordPerfect which had yet to release a version for Windows. We didn’t pay much attention to this at the time as our OfficePower clients that PowerWindows was designed for were all using WordPerfect. This would prove to be an oversight.
