View of Lake Audbon from our deck
Meanwhile back in Virginia Julie had mentioned several times since she moved up that she would like to live on a lake and my usual response was, “Yeah, that would be nice.” Reston, where we lived, had four man-made lakes, Lake Anne, Lake Thoreau, Lake Audubon and Lake Newport, so wherever you lived in Reston, there is a lake nearby. Lake Newport and Lake Anne were withing walking distance from where we lived and I had checked out all the lakes since living there, usually while riding my bike around on the many bike paths in Reston. Sure, it would be nice to live on a lake but the place we were renting was nice, we were now mostly settled in, and we could go to a lake anytime. I didn’t think much about it.
But Julie did. One weekend she said she had found a place to rent on a lake and so we went to check it out. It was a three level townhouse, much like the one we were renting, but on the south side of Reston on Lake Audubon. It was a nice home, the top floor had a master bedroom with bath and two smaller bedrooms. On the main level was the kitchen, dining room and stepdown living room and in the walkout basement there was a family room and a good sized workshop. The rooms on the south side all had view of the lake with master bedroom having windows, and the living room had sliding doors onto a deck and the family room having sliding doors at ground level under the living room deck. We put down a deposit on the unit and moved in the last week of June.
