Our family at Magnesia Springs
In early 1996 my uncle Gary Junior bought Magnesia Springs. Magnesia Spring is a fourth-magnitude springs located east of Gainesville and was a popular place when I was a child for families to go swimming.Mom wrote in her diary:
Nov. 28, 1996
Thanksgiving Day.
Dan & Judy had everyone over to their home for dinner. There were 33 of us there. It was really nice. Corky & Danny went & got mom from the nursing home. Also grandma Mixson was there. Later in the day about 20 of us piled into cars & went out to see what Gary had done to Magnesia Springs which he bought earlier in the year.
Our family went to Magnesia Springs in 1959 when I was running around the pool when I slipped, fell and cut my head and had to have five stitches, (see story). When Uncle Gary bought the place in 1996 it had been closed for many years and Gary described the pool as being so filled with debris that it was like a swamp with palm trees growing out of it. Gary spent several months cleaning up the pool and grounds, restoring the springs to its former beauty. Mom wrote in November of 1996.
