981 JOHN MIXON, MICHA MIXON (701), JOHN MIXON IV (6), JOHN MIXON III (3), JOHN MIXON II (2), JOHN MIXON I (1)

John Mixon, s. of Micha Mixon and wife, was b. in Darlington District, SC, ca. 1780. Date and place of death not now known. He and Samuel Mixon, a younger brother, sold their lands left them by their father, Micha Mixon, and moved to Lincoln County, TN, and are shown there with their families in the 1820 census. At that time, he had 2 sons under age of10, one son10-16, and 2 daughters under age of10. Evidently, this is not the John Mixson of Dallas County, AL, who went there in 1818, as the 1820 census of the latter John does not agree with that of the John Mixon in Lincoln County, TN The 1840 census of Montgomery County, TN shows three Mixon families, the ages of each head of the house agrees perfectly with the age groups in the 1820 census. It shows only three boys, John Mixon, age15, William Mixon, age13, (name of third is illegible). These three would fit well into the Ch. Mixon of the 1840 census. Since families moved about some, and there were two or three families moved from TN to TX, it is hard to be definite about this part.

982 C. MICAH MIXON, MICHA MIXON (701), JOHN MIXON IV (6), JOHN MIXON III (3), JOHN MIXON II (2), JOHN MIXON I (1)

C. Micah Mixon, s. of Micah Mixon and his wife, was b. in Darlington District, SC ca. 1781, died after 1830. About 1803, he m. Mary McClendon of Kershaw County, dau. of Lewis and Susan Dunn McClendon of Kershaw County, SC The family was listed in the 1820 census of Sumter County, but riot in the 1830 census. One Mary Mixon was listed in Darlington County, 1840, and it was concluded that it was she. However, family of M. Mixon is listed in Barbour County, AL, where John Mixon received a land grant for 80 acres in 1836, and Seyborn Mixon, a grant for 40 acres in 1839. The 1820 census of Sumter County, SC shows Micah with 2 sons under age 10. The 1840 census of Barbour County, AL, shows him with two sons in the 20-30 age group (agreeable to that in 1820 census), another male 15-20, and another, 10-15. Micah and wife are in the age group 50-60, and with a daughter, 15-20.

He sold his lands left him by his father, Micah Mixon, and settled in Sumter County, west of Bishopville, where he had bought two or more tracts of land, one of the tracts he had deeded to his two sons, James and Saybom. The latter tract was sold in 1831, both sons signing the deed as well as Micha and Mary. The family is shown in the 1820 census of Sumter, but not in 1830. Mary Mixon is shown in the 1840 census of Darlington County.
Children:

1007 Daughter - b. ca. 1804

1010 Daughter - b. 1812

Some new evidence on James Mixon, oldest son of Micah and Mary, has recently been gathered and sent in by Jacob Wade Mixon, Jr., of Houston, TX, a descendant of the family. Present information shows sons of Micah and Mary Mixon:

*4604 James Mixon - b. Ca. 1815

6986 Seaborn Mixon - b. ca. 1817 (had land grant, Barbour County, AL Feb 14, 1839, a grant at Natchitoches, LA 1858. (Not found so far in any census).

6987 Harvey Mixon, still in Barbour County in 1850, age 25 - b. in SC, not married. (Born about 1825) (Note, too, several descendants 9f the family bearing the given name "Harvey"). In 1860 he is in DeSoto Parish, LA, married, wife named Mary, one daughter, Josephine, age 4. He enlisted in the Confederate Army, Company "F" 9th LA Inf., Mar 8, 1862, age given was 35, and resident of Mansfield, LA He was captured twice, exchanged first time, but died in a prison camp at Elmira, NY. Nov 30, 1864 with pneumonia.

982d (Fourth son not yet identified).

Barbour County, AL shows land grant of 80 acres to John Mixon, Nov 18, 1836, 80 acres, and a grant to Seyborn Mixon for 40 acres, Feb14, 1839. (The John Mixon could be John James Mixon). The lands are located about I mile or so apart, south of Eufaula about 5 miles, but no records of any deeds to either tract by them to any party. Neither of them are shown in the 1840 census of that county, but in the 1850 census of Barbour County, the following are shown:

John Mixon, age 46 - b. SC (many times census records are now correct as to age)

Sarah Mixon, age 60

Elijah Mixon, age 18, Richard Mixon, age 21, Daniel Mixon, age16, and Elbert Mixon, age13 (All b. in SC).
