1049 Phereby Ann Mixon - b. Nov 26, 1842 in Wilcox County, AL, d. Mar 3, 1871, m. Jasper C. Mixon (a cousin, see #1068). Jasper Mixon was b. ca. 1831 and was son of Simpson Mariah Mixon (see #990), and had joined his Uncle Isaac before 1850, listed in that census as a farm overseer. Both bur. Boiling Spring Cemetery, Wilcox County, AL
Isaac died before 1860, intestate, leaving all property, both personal and real, to his wife and daughter. She and Jasper married Jul 1, 1862. Though they had no children, Clarissa deeded them several pieces of property, and Jasper acquired other pieces of property later on. Phereby Ann had d. before 1885, for it was that year Jasper m. Mrs. A. R. Jones, a widow, who also preceded Jasper in death. He d. Mar 28, 1888, intestate, and Clarissa bought all the property he had owned from his heirs (children of his sister or sisters) at and for the sum of four thousand dollars. From Probate Court records of Wilcox County, the heirs are listed as follows:
W.J. Beasley of Chickasaw County, MS.
R. F. Beasley of Jefferson County, Montana
H.S. Beasley Sumter County, SC
M.A. Beasley Clay County, MS.
F. D. Beasley Clay County, MS.
F.N. Beasley Clay County, MS,
Sarah Francis Reuss Washington County, IL.*
During the next few years, Clarissa sold several tracts of lands to different individuals, some bearing the name Mixon, who, probably, were ex-slaves. She left no will on record in Wilcox and there is no administration for her estate (if any) shown. She could have moved to another county.
Census records indicate another daughter and a son, both dying young.
*Note from Karen Reinhardt Mason: Sarah Francis Reuss of Washington County, IL was my great grandmother. I have the letters from the attorney in 1930 when Mrs. Anderson (daughter of Tallila Beasley) filed suit for ownership of the M & O Railroad Shares that were willed to her mother from Jasper.
