2089 ANTHONY WESTBERRY MIXON, ELIJAH MIXON (2064), SAMUEL MIXON (705), JOHN MIXON IV (6), JOHN MIXON III (3), JOHN MIXON II (2), JOHN MIXON I (1)
Anthony Westberry Mixon, s. of Elijah and Gracie Mixon, was b. in Sumpter District, SC, Aug 30, 1821, d. Feb. 14, 1865. About 1846, he m. Mary Truett, b. ca. 1831, d. 1865
From Military Records on Confederate Soldiers, evidently it was he who enlisted at Camp Harlee, near Georgetown, South Carolina, Jan 1, 1862 in the 9th Company (Company "I"), Clarendon Guards, 25th SC Infantry, with his age given as 41. The records indicate he was captured at Fort Fisher, January 15, 1865, transferred to a prison camp at Elmira, NY where he was received from New York City, January 30, 1865. He died there on February 14, 1865 from chronic diarrhea. Grave #2160.
Above information shows, of course, that his wife was a widow when she was shown in the 1870 census of Concord, Sumter, South Carolina, with her children.
Note: Several sources on Ancestry.com list Anthony Westberry’s wife as Sarah C. Gibson with a different set of children. That Anthony is Anthony Windham (not Westberry, see #2094) Larry Mixson
Ages shown in census records, many times, listing ages, are not always correct, Nellie (#2163) age 2 years, (b. 1868), could have been three or four years older; if not, she was probably a granddaughter.
Census:
1850 Division 4, Darlington, SC, age 24, wife Mary-20, children: Martha-3, Frances-2
Children of Anthony and Mary Mixson are:
§2158 Martha Mixon - b. 1847 in Sumpter County, SC, d. Nov 21, 1917, m. Francis Grooms
2159 Frances Mixon - b. 1849
2160 Joseph Mixon - b. ca 1857
2161 Mary Mixon - b. 1860
2162 Anthony Mixon - b. ca. 1864 probably in Darlington County, SC, (the 1850 census of that county showed the family living there), but in 1870, his mother, Mary Truett Mixson and her children were in Sumpter County with Anthony's age given as 6. The name of his wife is not known, but from information sent in, he had married, probably about 1885. Their known children are as follows:
9185 Edith Mixon, m. ____Tolson
9186 Maude Mixon, m. ____ Demas
