Ichabod Mixon, s. of Samuel Mixon and his wife, was b. in Darlington District, SC, October 1, 1779, d. in Chickasaw County, MS, bur. Oak Grove Cemetery, Sparta, Chickasaw County, MS. Fortunately, Bible records are available on him and his children. He m. Gatsy Belk, b. in SC Dec 19, 1785, d. bef. 1867 bur. Oak Grove Cemetery, Sparta, MS, dau. of William and Hannah Belk of Kershaw County, SC Ichabod and family lived in Sumter County, near the Kershaw County line for several years, and bought lands in that area. He sold out there and moved to Marion County, AL in the 1820's, where he and sons obtained land grants. This part of Marion was later cut off into Fayette and Tuscaloosa Counties. Before 1850, Ichabod and wife, and four of his sons and their families had migrated to Chickasaw County, MS, where they are shown in the 1850 census. One family is still shown there in 1860. Possibly some moved back to AL or elsewhere. After his death, Gatsy Belk Mixon, later married a Mr. Young (a Minister), and lived to a very ripe age before her death.

Following. are some answers to a questionnaire sent Ira Mixon (2136) by a kinsman, dated March 8, 1933. His home was at Woodland, MS., and his age was 75 at the time.

 

Ichabod Mixon (2059), grandfather, was b. in SC, Oct 1, 1779. Gatsy Belk Mixon (2059), grandmother, was b. in SC Dec 19, 1785. (After her husband's death, she married at age 85, a Mr. Young, a minister).

 

Ichabod and Gatsy, d. in Chickasaw County, MS, and both buried at Oak Grove cemetery near Sparta. Some of their Bible records refer to following children with their birthdates:

(2081) Duncan Mixon was the father of Ira Mixon (2136). Duncan mar. Anna King, dau. of Elijah King and his wife, Elizabeth Belk. She was dau. of Jeremiah Belk (a brother of Gatsy Belk, above mentioned), and Jeremiah BElk's wife was Anna Mixon, dau. of Micah Mixon.

 

Anna King_, had a brother named Zimmerman King, (bur. at Oak Grove, MS, near Sparta) and he had a grandson, Otis Beasley, who lived at Woodland, MS Carrie bollard was a second cousin Lo Ira Mixon.

John Mixon, s. of Samuel Mixon and his wife, was b. in Darlington District, SC ca. 1783, d. 1825. About 1811, he m. Martha Windham, b. ca. 1795. They are listed in the 1820 census of Darlington with three sons, and in the 1830 census, she alone is listed with the three sons. The 1825 Original Revolutionary Grants of South Carolina shows she was made a grant for that year for three children. The age groups of the children fit the ages that later census records give of each of them:

Elijah Mixon, s. of Samuel Mixon and his wife, was b. in Darlington District, SC, ca. 1787. He and family are in Sumter County, SC in the 1820 census, but not shown in the 1830 census. Evidently he d. before 1840 as his widow with some grown children and some not grown are listed there and later censuses. His wife was Gracie b. ca. 1795, whom he had m. about 1810.

Samuel Gooden Mixon, Jr., s. of Samuel Mixon and his wife, was b. in Darlington District, SC, ca. 1788, d. Jan, 1824, intestate. About 1810, he m. Harriette Sims, b. 1791. d. 1822, dau. of Samuel Sims who d. in Darlington District, 1815, intestate, s. John named administrator. Harriette was named administratrix of her deceased husband's estate (all personal property). There were two sons in the family, also one daughter (perhaps their oldest child) who, with her husband, is listed in Harriette's home. Also, two children belonging to the latter couple. The name of this daughter and husband have not been identified. The two sons of Samuel G. and Harriette Mixon are listed next:
