Thomas Jefferson Mixon, s. of James W. and Sarah Sumrall Mixon, was b. May 1, 1860 in that part of Perry County, MS, which later became Forrest County, d. Feb. 5, 1943 at Hattiesburg, MS, bur. Bennett Cemetery, Hattiesburg, MS. He was the first May or of Hattiesburg, was sheriff of the county at the age of 21, also served as Chancery Clerk for 24 years.. Educated and tutored by Mr. George Hartfield, a graduate of the University of Edinburg, Scotland. On Oct. 28, 1891, he m. Carrie Belle McCoy - b. Oct., 1873, d. Feb., 1941. She was dau. of Leonidas Spartais and Susan Morrison McCoy of Jasper County, MS

John Franklin Mixon, s. of Reuben and Martha Mixon, was b. in MS, Oct. 6, 1856, d. Nov. , 23 1936. About 1881, he m. on March 16, 1882 to Margaret Brown - b. Oct. 16, 1861, d. Oct.17, 1918., d. of Robert Brown by his first wife.  Both are are buried at Indian Springs Cemetery across the road from the Indian Springs Baptist Church.

 

Original Land Entry Tract Book of Perry County shows John Franklin Mixon homesteaded: NE¼ NE¼: S½ NE¼: NW¼ SE; SE¼ 29 T4N R11W on September 11, 1891. He received Patent June 12, 1893.
