Thursday, January 1, 1959
New Year’s Day


We got up late and went to Mother’s about 11:30 to watch the Rose Bowl Parade on T.V.  Had dinner with mom & dad & the men watched football on T.V. all afternoon.  Went by Dot & John’s & had supper with them.  It slowed rained all day.  Morris & John planned their fishing trip.  Got home about 11 o’clock.

Friday, January 2, 1959

Morris & John left to go fishing about 5 o’clock this morning. We didn’t get up until 9:30.  David cut his leg and I had to take him to the Doctor.  Gary took us.  Had 3 stiches taken info David got a firetruck for Christmas which he had in the bathroom with him. He fell off the toilet and cut his knee on the firetruck’s ladder. and it rained all day.  Morris & John spent the night at the fish camp so we all went to bed early.  I read a good story in Reader’s Digest Condensed Book.

Saturday, January 3, 1959

Morris was gone all day and the kids & I didn’t get up until 9 o’clock.  After lunch we went to town.  I got a new pair of shoes.  Went to Mom’s as Sue & Danny were there.  Stayed until about 5 o’clock & Morris got home about then.  Warmed roast beef, gravy, fresh green beans, salad & rice for supper.  Morris went to bed at seven and I did about 9:30.  Morris caught about 4 good size fish.

Sunday, January 4, 1959

Wet to S.S. (Sunday School) with the kids.  After lunch went to Ocala to see Charlie & Emily.  They moved into their new house the day before Xmas and its beautiful house.  They took us riding & we went to see Needles the famous race house.  Ate hamburger with them and got home about 9 o’clock.

Monday, January 5, 1959

I washed this morning and boy was it cold!  Melba Sanders Doris Weaver, our neighbors, both had their babies this morning.  Melba, a girl, & Doris a boy.  Got my new light for the dining area.  Morris hopes to put it up Sat.

Tuesday, January 6, 1959

Cleaned house good today.  Changed the furniture around in the kids’ bedrooms.

Wednesday, January 7, 1959

Did the ironing this morning.  Made cookies this afternoon -  new recipe very good.  Mom, Dad, Gary, Bart & Corky came over for a fish supper.  Brenda rode her bicycle all the way to her school this afternoon for the first time.  She went to look for Larry’s hat which he lost on the way home.

Cleaned house good today.  It slowly rained all day.  We took a nap this afternoon, and that’s about all.

Friday, January 9, 1959

Had the stiches taken out of David’s leg today.  Went to town, got the boys a haircut, and got Brenda a red car coat with hood.  It looks so cute on her!  Got groceries, spent $25.00 this week.  Stopped by Sue’s house and visited with this afternoon.

Saturday, January 10, 1959

Morris & Bart got my light up over the dining room table.  Its’ really pretty.  Donald & Irene & boys also Bart & Corky were here for supper.  We had Chili. The men wet to see Fla. Play basketball at the Univ. Mom & Dad came by and they all didn’t leave until almost 11.

Sunday, January 11, 1959

Got up late so we didn’t make it to Sunday School this morning.  Had am early dinner and went out to see Betty & Billy.  Spent the afternoon there & dropped by to see Grandma & Grandpa Mixson on our way home.  Had lunch and went to bed early.  David had to sleep with me as he’s been crying in this sleep so much lately.

Monday, January 12, 1959

Did a big wash & cleaned house good.  It was real cold this morning. Big frost all over everything.  Warmed up to 60 this afternoon after a low of 23° when I took Morris to work.  Visited Doris & her baby this afternoon after I made some brownies for supper.  Played with the kids on the floor and they loved it.

Tuesday, January 13, 1959

Did the ironing this morning.  Morris didn’t come home for lunch so David & I were here by ourselves.  Took Brenda & Larry to the school dentist.  Brenda had a filling put in but all Larry needed was his teeth cleaned. Went by & registered Brenda’s dolls – the ones Grandma Mixson made in the Doll Show.  Went by & saw Emma Lee’s new house & visited with her.  Stopped by the drugstore & had a Coke.  Had baked ham for supper.

Wednesday, January 14, 1959

Cleaned house & took a long nap this afternoon, and that’s about all.  Larry has learned to get on his bicycle by himself and he’s a sight as he goes wobbling down the street! But he’s so proud.  He & Hank Weaver are such good pals.  They ride up & down all afternoon. Caught them trying to chop down a pine tree as big as a house the other day.

Thursday, January 15, 1959

Got the house cleaned up by 10 o’clock & Mom called & asked David & I to go out to lunch.  We ate at Park Lane Cafeteria out in the shopping center.  Mom gave me a dark blue Sacony dress for my birthday.  Went to the Doll Show this afternoon.  Brenda’s dolls won 2nd prize in the homemade doll division.  She is so proud of it.

Barbara’s Birthday

Boy, has it been cold today.  David & I went to buy groceries about noon, so we stayed and ate lunch at Liggett’s drugstore.  Made my birthday cake (chocolate) this afternoon.  Bart came (late) over for steak supper and took care of the kids while we went to the show.  Say Jerry Lewis, and it was so funny!  Bought 2 books for my birthday.

Sunday, January 18, 1959

We all went to S.S. & church and then Mom had us over for my birthday dinner.  Had steak, baked potatoes, tossed salad, corn, black eyed peas, & a wonderful cake.  It was all just delicious.  Bart came over & ate in the afternoon & we played canasta until about 10.

Monday, January 19, 1959

Did a big wash this morning & cleaned up the house some.  Morris’s folks came up just before lunch.  She bought me bath powder for my birthday.  Morris went to Sanford for Daddy on business.  He went by & saw Joyce & Wyndall for a few minutes.  He got home about supper time.  Made stew for supper.  Had my S.S. class meeting here tonight.  Had 11 present.

Tuesday, January 20, 1959

This morning I went to my circle meeting at the church.  It was the first time as program chairman.  I had to present the program and my knees shook all morning.  Everyone says it was good tho.  Gee it got up to 80° this afternoon.  Just like summer.  Started some typing for daddy.

Wednesday, January 21, 1959

Did my ironing this morning.  It was really like summer today.  It got up to 84°.  Did some reading this afternoon.  Am reading the book “The Day Christ Died” and it really wonderful.

Went to town and bought myself a new dress at the Personality Shop – on sale for $6 – it was $14.95 dress.  Its’ real cute – grey and I bought new red high heels – just a darling.  Also I took a real bad cold & I feel awful.

Saturday, January 24, 1959

Morris went to Daytona Beach to fix a machine info Dad repaired F&E check protector machines for Grandpa Junior’s business.  and the kids & I were going but I have such a bad cold I stayed home. Did some house work & loafed the rest of the day.  Hank ate lunch with the kids, & was there all morning.

Sunday, January 25, 1959

Went to S.S this morning.  After lunch we went over to Mom’s as Sue & Danny were there. Sue & Jimmy got a new Ford car.  Real pretty.  Stayed until about 4:30. Morris helped to fix supper. Had hot roast beef sandwiches.  It was delicious. Went to bed early.

Washed & cleaned house today. A beautiful day 78°. My cold is still bad.

Tuesday, January 27, 1959

Did the ironing this morning. Betty with Timmy & Karen surprised us about lunch time. Had lunch, & Betty went to the Dr. while I took care of the kids. Had a nice time visiting all afternoon.

Wednesday, January 28, 1959

Brenda & Larry bought home their report cards.  Larry made all 3’s. Brenda made all 3’s and one 4 in spelling. She’s real proud of it, and I am too. Larry’s writing is real good, makes gold stars on every day’s work. Went to the shopping center tonight. We didn’t win the car!

We pulled Brenda’s 6th took out tonight. She looks so funny, but kinda cute when you get used to it.

Friday, January 30, 1959

Wet to see Larry’s teacher Mrs. Petty today. She said Larry is a real good student. His speech has improved a lot this past semester. Went to see Reddick play basketball tonight. Betty & Billy & girls met us there. The kids really enjoyed it. Got home real late.

Saturday, January 31, 1959

Washed & cleaned house. Adrian came by this morning so Rosie stayed & played with Brenda. A beautiful day. I worked out in the yard some. Morris worked all day over at daddy’s.
