March
Sunday, March 1, 1959
We all went to S.S. & church & then came home to dinner. Morris & I worked in the yard all afternoon. Planted some carrots, onions, radishes, beets, & tomatoes on the far side of the house. Made a lily bed along the fence. It drizzled rain all day long. Larry was so good. He helped us all afternoon. He worked as hard as I did!
Monday, March 2, 1959
What a windy day! Could hardly hang up the wash, and I haven’t washed since last Thurs! Went to the church this morning for our week of prayer for home Missionaries. I was on the program.
Tuesday, March 3, 1959
Well I didn’t get the house cleaned very good yesterday so I did that today & washed all the bed clothes too. Had a frost this morning but it got up to 62° this afternoon. Went over & talked to Agnes this afternoon. She’s expecting in July so all we talked about was babies!
Wednesday, March 4, 1959
Cleaned up the house some & baked a coconut cake this afternoon. Gary took care of the kids & Morris & I went to town & saw the picture “The Ten Commandments”. It was really good. Didn’t get home until 11:45 so went straight to bed.
Thursday, March 5, 1959
Didn’t do anything today except clean house & took a nap. Sally & Becky ate lunch with us & stayed all morning. Put in in an old permanent in Brenda’s hair this afternoon. Hope it takes.
Friday, March 6, 1959
Went to the clinic at school this morning. Took a book along to read & almost finished it. Then I ate lunch at school with Brenda. We went to town this afternoon & did a little shopping & got Brenda’s bangs cut. Morris went to work tonight so I went to bed early.
Saturday, March 7, 1959
Morris went to work over at Daddy’s so I cleaned house good, moped & waxed the kitchen & bathroom & did a big wash. This afternoon we planted some pansy plants & worked in the yard but it was quite cold out. Went to bed early.
Sunday, March 8, 1959
Wet to S.S. this morning & right after went out to Mixsons for dinner. Stopped by & saw Sue & Jimmy a minute at their Mixsons. Stopped by & saw Betty & Billy and Sybil & Willie were there so we had quite a chat. Got home about 7 o’clock. Went to bed early. The wind was quite cold all day.
Monday, March 9, 1959
It turned out to be a real nice day, about 70°. Cleaned house & did a big wash. Brenda girl friend, Judy, at school & her brother & mother came over & visited this afternoon. They live on the Glen Springs Road. (David wet the mattress of Mrs. Nash our neighbor & was she mad! She had it out airing!) Went to S.S. class meeting at Emma Lee’s house tonight. Had a baby shower for Virginia Williams along with it.
Tuesday, March 10, 1959
Did my ironing this morning. Mom & Corky came over about 4 this afternoon & then stayed for supper. Had pork chops. They went home about 9 o’clock.
Wednesday, March 11, 1959
Cleaned up the house & went over to Mom’s before dinner.
Thursday, March 12, 1959
No entry
Friday, March 13, 1959
Evelyn Alexander & Robin went to town with David & I this morning. We ate lunch at the Drugstore & really enjoyed it. Had to take the boys back to town after school to get a haircut so it seems like I was in town all day. Looked for new class frames but Beckans want too much money for their metal ones.
Saturday, March 14, 1959
Morris worked for Daddy practically all day so I cleaned house good & washed. Brenda ate supper with Lizzie Hudson & enjoyed it so much. (Alltho she didn’t like the spaghetti they had & she loves mine!)
Sunday, March 15, 1959
Well it was poring this morning but the kids & I went to S.S. anyway. Morris had a headache & didn’t sleep any all night so he was tired all day. We took a long nap this afternoon & then went to church where daddy’s preaching. Crestview Mission. The kids really enjoyed hearing their grandpa preach!
Monday, March 16, 1959
Well it rained all day so cleaned house a little & washed but didn’t hang it up.
Tuesday, March 17, 1959
Took the cloths over to Mom’s to hang up in the basement as it rained all day again. Went to my circle meeting at the church. Not many came, because of the rain I guess. Went and got my new glass frames this afternoon. $20.00 hated to spend that much but they’re all metal so they shouldn’t break very easily.
Wednesday, March 18, 1959
Raining again today. Went to the covered dish luncheon at the church at noon. It was our circle’s day to serve the food. Evelyn & I went together. Enjoyed it very much. Ironed the boys blue jeans this afternoon and that’s about all & got done. Morris is still having head aches & can’t sleep at night. It must be his nerves.
Thursday, March 19, 1959
Well it cleared up this afternoon for awhile so I did a little washing. And guess what! My lens in my classes cracked so had to go back down & she said it’ll be Mon. before I can get some new ones. Is it awful to look though cracked glasses!
Friday, March 20, 1959
Well David & I went to town in the poring rain to get his stuff for his Birthday Party. We ate lunch at Long’s Cafeteria & then bought groceries & then picked up the kids at school. Cleared up this afternoon again. Hope it’s nice for the party tomorrow.
Saturday, March 21, 1959
A beautiful day after the rain all week. Gave David his birthday party today. Those who came, Hank, Becky, Sally Weaver, Little Al, Rebecka Nash, Tommy, Barby Lou, Mary Grace Hewelittle, Janice, Karen & Timmy, Sharon Fay, Sammy Rick & Robin & Debbie Alexander, Betty & Billy stayed for supper & then we put the kids to bed & we played canasta until midnight. So Janice & Karen spent the night with us. I’m really tired, I’ve really worked today, but it was worth it as David loved his party.
Sunday, March 22, 1959
The kids had us up early but we didn’t go to S.S. as we wanted to get out to Mixsons. Janice & Karen spent the day at Mixsons with us too. Mrs. M. had been sick all week & their roof leaked all week & everything was a mess.
Monday, March 23, 1959
A nice spring day so I washed practically all day. Talked to Sue H. this afternoon about the Easter party for Larry’s room. Morris stayed home tonight & it seemed so funny. He took some pills I got him from the Dr. & he slept good for the first time in two weeks!
Tuesday, March 24, 1959
Ironed today & went down to get my new glasses this afternoon. Had Mom, Gary & Corky over for David’s Birthday Supper. Corky let the kids help him dye some Easter eggs. Brenda & Larry went to Judy’s house after school to play. They got home at 4:30. Morris has been sleeping pretty good since he’s got his pills.
Wednesday, March 25, 1959
Cleaned up the house quick & went over to Sue’s house to make cupcakes & punch for Larry’s Easter Party tomorrow. Morris went to Valdosta Ga. with daddy so David & I ate lunch at the Burger King. The kids & I took a nap – so they could stay up & see “Sea Hunt” on T.V. tonight. They really enjoyed that program. Morris got home while we were eating supper.
Thursday, March 26, 1959
Really cleaned the house good today getting ready for Easter.
Friday, March 27, 1959
The kids had off from school today so I took them to town & to buy groceries with me. We went to the show tonight. It wasn’t too good; a war picture “The Naked and the Dead”.
Saturday, March 28, 1959
Agnew (next door) & I took our kids & the Weaver kids to the egg hunt at the shopping center and to the one at Harris Field. Brenda found a price egg at Harris Field & won a $5.00 gift certificate at Fremac’s (which she proudly gave to her daddy to get a new pair of pants.) Cooked practically all afternoon to get ready for tomorrow.
Sunday, March 29, 1959
Easter Sunday
We all went to S.S. & church this morning. Brenda had a new slip, purse & a green nylon dress. They boys each had new shoes, & I had a new navy blue dress (two piece) red heels & a red purse (Mom gave me). Dot & John & family came over for dinner & left about 7:30. It was misty & quite cool all day long so the kids stayed in all day & what a time!
Monday, March 30, 1959
It was rainy all day so I cleaned up and did the wash, but didn’t hang it up. The kids had off from school today so I had about 10 kids in the yard all day long. Hate to think what its’ going to be like this summer! Morris worked over at daddy’s almost all day. Got home about 4 & then we worked in the yard.
Tuesday, March 31, 1959
Well it turned out nice today so I really did the wash. Morris got paid at noon so we went to town & put his check at the bank, & he got a new pair of shoes at Fremacs. Got a few groceries & got all the kids an Easter Bunny (on sale for $1.00 at the grocery store.) Were they thrilled, you’d think I’ve given them a million dollars!
