Friday, May 1, 1959

Had to go by Jerrip, Evelyns, & Myrles house to give them their parts on the program I have really worked & planned this thing. Hope it goes off O.K. Kids had off from school today. Brenda made a 4 in reading this time for the first time. She’s real proud. We ate lunch at the drugstore. David had his first filling put in. Went to the show tonight. I’m dead tired!

Saturday, May 2, 1959

Well we slept late this morning. Morris went to work over at Daddy’s and I washed & cleaned house. Let the kids go in the swimming pool this afternoon for the first time. We grilled hamburgers outdoors & ate supper on the picnic table. Lizzie Hudson ate with us. Morris fixed my washing machine this afternoon.

Didn’t go to S.S. this morning as Morris wanted to go to his folks early. He cut their grass before dinner & afterwards went fishing down at the pond. I went over to see Betty for awhile. Stayed & ate supper with Mixsons.

Well I talked on the phone a dozen times today I know about our program tomorrow night.

Mom, Audrey, Jerry & Ruth Finley came to the church this afternoon to help decorate. It looked real pretty. The program is on Hawaii and we really went all out for it. Well the program was a hit! Had several to tell me it was the best one in years! I was real glad.

Friday, May 8, 1959

Took David to the dentist, went over to Evelyn’s house & we fixed dinner for Margaret Le Pert (our circle chairman who just came home from the hospital) Betty & Karen came up & we went to town & then bought groceries. Picked up Brenda and Larry from school & went out to Betty’s house. Ate supper & then played canasta until 1:30. Betty & I beat the socks off from Morris & Billy! Spent the night at Betty’s.

Saturday, May 9, 1959

The kids had us up at 7 o’clock & I’m been sleepy all day. Ate lunch at Betty’s & then went over to Mixson’s & dug our potatoes.  Got 6 bushels. Larry & David picked up every one! They worked like little niggers!  They were dirty & tired when we got through. Got home about 5:30. I made a cake, fixed green beans, & made a jello salad for dinner tomorrow.

Sunday, May 10, 1959

Kids & I went to S.S. & the rushed home to fix dinner as I took it over to Mom’s to eat dinner there. Sue & Jimmy & Danny, & Gary’s girlfriend Gina & her sister Rosemary were there too. We really had a feast. Mom made ice cream.  Harwell & Latrelle (our old neighbors who now live in Ga.) came by to see us. Morris had a bad headache all night & all day today.

Monday, May 11, 1959

Did a big wash & cleaned house today. Let Larry & David go to a boy’s house to play this afternoon & Brenda played in the swimming pool over with Becky & Sally Weaver. My class meeting was here tonight. Only 6 came, & it turned into a gossip session! Morris didn’t get home until 11 o’clock. Wish it would rain, we sure need it.

Well it rained a little tonight for the first time in about 4 weeks. Took David to the Dentist. He had 2 more fillings. Went by the library & then by Margaret Le Perto house to see how she’s getting along. Took a nap this afternoon. Morris went to work tonight.

Wednesday, May 13, 1959

Ironed this morning. Let Brenda go home with a girlfriend named Judy after school. The boys & I took a nap and then went over and picked up Brenda. Had a pretty good rain today. Morris cut the grass tonight & then went to work.  I pulled weeds!

Thursday, May 14, 1959

Before I got the house cleaned up Mom came over & we picked blackberries over on their lots. The “lots” were west of Gainesville off the Newberry Road. Grandpa would later build a house. See The Ranchette Mom made us 4 pies & 2 cherry ones. Finally got the house cleaned up about 4 o’clock. Morris worked until 11 o’clock tonight.

Friday, May 15, 1959

Took David to the Dentists & then we went to town & we ate at Longs Cafeteria. Bought groceries. Morris went fishing with John tonight. I went to bed early.

Saturday, May 16, 1959

Morris & John fixed the brakes on our car this morning, so I stayed over with Dot. We stayed & ate lunch with them. Morris fixed up Sharon’s old bicycle & put a new tire on Larry’s this afternoon so they can start riding them to school again.

Sunday, May 17, 1959

We decided early today to take off & go to St. Augustine Beach. The kids have been wanting to go & so have I! We left here about 10 o’clock & got home about 5:30. Had a real nice time. I packed our lunch & we ate on the beach. We all got a nice tan.

Did a big wash & cleaned up today. We all took a long nap this afternoon.

Tuesday, May  19, 1959

Went to my circle meeting this morning. David stayed with Sharon Fay. She got a new pool last night so David wanted to play in it. Didn’t get a thing done today.

Wednesday, May 20, 1959

Well I washed all the sheets & bedspreads this morning & it pored rain all day long.  Ironed today too. Chesser (our old friend) stopped by & figured out how much it would cost to fix our porch. He said $500.00. Another man is coming out tomorrow. Heard from Dixie. She and Carol are coming for Gary’s graduation.

Friday, May 22, 1959

Went to the Dentist this morning & then Morris met me up town & we went to the bank to see about a loan & then we ate at Longs. Morris helped me to get groceries. Tonight the breakfast for the Seniors over at Mom’s. I’m going to help her serve.

Saturday, May 23, 1959

Helped Morris to tear down the front porch so the men can get started early Mon. morning. Morris cut & fertilized the grass today.  It poured rain about 4 o’clock. Well I got to bed at 3 o’clock this morning. We had about 200 to come to the breakfast Gary gave after the Jr. Sr. Prom at G.H.S. They all seemed to have a good time.

Went to Sunday School and then out to Mixsons for dinner. Andrew & Amber Lee came by & spent the afternoon. Stopped by to see Arnolds & Eunice’s new baby girl. They named her Glenda. She was a doll. Went to bed early.

Monday, May 25, 1959

Did a big wash. Wm. Chesser (we always called him Chess.) & another man Mr. Ross started work on the porch today. Oh I’m glad, glad, glad!

Tuesday, May 26, 1959

Ironed today. Melba, Agnes (my neighbors) & I went to the show tonight to see “Imitation of Life”. It was a real good movie. Melba & I cried all the way thought it.

Wednesday, May 27, 1959

Started to clean & Betty, Karen & Timmy came. Then about 11 o’clock Mixsons came. They all stayed & ate lunch & left about 2:30. The windows came for the porch today. Ordered material to make drapes. Green Burlap. Just 58¢ a yard so it won’t cost much.

Larry lost his first tooth tonight. It was so little & pretty!

Well they finished the porch today but it’s still a mess. Mom & Dad came over for supper. Had the fish that Dr. Weaver gave us.

Memorial Day

Morris painted the ceiling of the porch today and I got a ticket for running a red light. Betty & Billy & kids came by & ate lunch with us.

We stayed home all day & put the tile on the floor, washed windows & put up the screens.
