Monday, June 1, 1959

Washed, cleaned house & made cookies this afternoon for Larry’s party tomorrow. It was not a party for me but the students in my 1st grade class were giving for our teacher Mrs. Petty as she was going to have a baby.

Tuesday, June 2, 1959

Went & bought 28.00 worth of paint today. Had to go to Court this afternoon. Got 7.50 back from $15.00 I had to put up for running that red light! Went to Larry’s school party. We gave Mrs. Petty a play pen as she’s leaving to have a baby this summer.

Wednesday, June 3, 1959

Last day of school today. Both Brenda & Larry passed. Brenda made three 4’s this six weeks. She’s really proud. Larry made all 3’s which is good. Mixsons & Aunt Bessie came up early. We made the drapes for the porch. Look right nice. They stayed for supper too and I’m tired. Had our first watermelon today.

Thursday, June 4, 1959

Boy, did I would today. Changed all the beds, & washed 4 loads. Cleaned house real good, moped & waxed the kitchen & bathroom, defrosted the refrigerator, cleaned the porch good & put furniture out there, & ironed for 2 hours. Then I helped Morris paint the boys room. Sue & Danny are suppose to come tonight & Dixie, Carol, & Danah in the morning.

Friday, June 5, 1959

Went to the Dentist & then over to Moms to see everyone. They all go here O.K. Sue went to buy groceries with me. Brenda stayed with Danah & the boys went to the show. We all ate over to Mom’s tonight & then we all went to Gary’s graduation at the Univ. gym. I think Sue & I talked thro it all.

Saturday, June 6, 1959

Well we got to bed about midnight last night. Sue & Danny spent the night here with us & the kids were up at 8 o’clock. Morris stayed home last night with the boys, & us girls all got together over at Moms. Daddy was dancing with us all!  Bill & Dixie’s friends, Carol & Fred came about 8 o’clock tonight. They all spent the night here with us. The boys & Danny slept on the floor.

Sunday, June 7, 1959

Got up & cooked breakfast for them all & they got off about 9:30. We took about a 3 hr. nap this afternoon. Just got up & Dot & John &kids came over & stayed for supper (hamburgers!) They left about 10 o’clock & I’m dog tired again.

Monday, June 8, 1959

Had to get the kids up to go to Bible school this morning. They are going to the Westwood Mission just down the road. The Westwood Mission was a mile down University Avenue from us. It started as a branch of North Central Baptist Church which we had been attending but in a few years separated and became Westside Baptist Church which Mom and Dad were members of the remainder of their lives. The kids & I took a good nap this afternoon. Went to my S.S. class meeting tonight at Mildred Huguley’s house.

Tuesday, June 9, 1959

Kids went to Bible School & I went to my circle meeting at the church. Then went & got a plant for Betty Nixon as she’s moving away. Went to her house this afternoon & while there May Ann Rhodes (an old member of our S.S. class) stopped by. Was glad to see her. She lives in Clearwater now.

Wednesday, June 10, 1959

Ironed about 3 hours today & cleaned up some. Washed bed cloths, & had Mom & Corky over for supper. Daddy & Gary took Carol & Danah home to Atlanta last Sun. so they’ve been gone all week. Hasn’t rained in a week now. Starting to eat tomatoes out of our garden & they are so good.

Thursday, June 11, 1959

The kids went to Bible School & then I took them to the Skating Rink to take skating lessons. Brenda’s 2nd grade teacher Mrs. Starling is teaching it. They all did right good for the first time. We all took a long nap this afternoon.

Friday, June 12, 1959

Went to Bible School Commencement today & stayed for the picnic supper. Enjoyed it. Agnes & Curt (next door) went too.

Saturday, June 13, 1959

Morris worked for Daddy this morning & this afternoon we went swimming out at Magnesia Springs. Magnesia Springs had been closed for many years and was in a terrible state of repair when in 1996 my Uncle Gary Junior bought the springs and restored it.  Gary never opened it to the public, but we had several family reunions there before he sold it.Betty & Billy met us there & we stayed & ate sandwiches for supper. Cory went along too.

Went to S.S. this morning. Went out to see Mixsons then bought Janice home with us so she can start skating lessons tomorrow with the kids. She can come up with Anita here after & can go to the Univ. & get her.

Boy with Janice here, we really have the kids around. She’s been real good thou & Brenda enjoys haver her so much. Ironed today & it’s been so hot.

Well it got 100° today & I sure haven’t done much house cleaning lately. Only enough to keep it looking decent.

Thursday, June 18, 1959

Brenda & Janice went home with Anita this afternoon. The kids are skating better all the time. 100° again today. Got in the swimming pool with the kids this afternoon.

Friday, June 19, 1959

Bought groceries & Father’s Day presents today. Went out to Betty’s this afternoon. Morris came out with Otis. Ate supper & then we played Canasta until 10 o’clock. Spent the night there.

Saturday, June 20, 1959

Karen came home with us & is staying until Monday when Betty comes up. Betty & Billy bought a used English Ford today. I took care of her kids while they went to buy groceries & get their car.

Sunday, June 21, 1959

We went to S.S. this morning & Morris stayed home to paint the inside of our porch. Sue & Jimmy came up to Mom’s this afternoon & we ate supper over there with them. Gave Daddy shorty pj’s & Morris a pair of dress pants for Father’s Day.

Betty brought her girls up to go skating & I took care of them while she bought groceries.

Bought groceries this morning. Took a nap this afternoon & went to the show tonight. Wasn’t very good. Got home at one o’clock. The first show was a haunted one & it really scared the kids. Brenda & David wouldn’t look at it at all & Larry hid his face quite often. Can’t take them to such a one again. Even scared me!

Seeing it was Daddy’s birthday today, I had Mom and Dad, Corky & Gary over for a Birthday supper. Took me practically all day to cook it & bake his cake. Mom & Dad stayed until about 10 o’clock. Oh yes Gary joined the Navy today.
