Thursday, October 1, 1959

Went out to Pat Murphy’s house to make posters for Sunbeams to put up at the church Sunday. Finished my ironing this afternoon.

Friday, October 2, 1959

Susie & I went to town, over to church, to the Bank & got groceries this morning. Worked on Sunbeam stuff all afternoon.

Saturday, October 3, 1959

Gary’s Birthday. Gary, Dad, Corky & Morris went to the ball game & mom gave Brenda a permanent while I baked a cake. After the game they all came here & we had a hamburger fry. They all left about 8:30. Had quite a storm this evening.

Sunday, October 4, 1959

Went to S.S. & then came home as Mixsons came up for dinner. They left about 2:30 and Morris & I went over to se our new neighbors right in back of us. They seem to be nice. About 4 o’clock we decided to go see Betty & Billy. Got home about 6:30.

Monday, October 5, 1959

Cleaned house, washed & had our first Sunbeam meeting today. We were so surprised we had 43 children to come all together! We had so many 5-6 & 7 yr olds we’re going to have to separate them.

Friday, October 9, 1959

Went to town, the bank, and then by Toyland at Jack & Jills. They’re moving to a larger store so they were having a sale on all toys, so I put up a doll (beautiful) and an electric train for the boys. Got groceries after lunch.

Saturday, October 10, 1959

I cleaned house & washed & baked Grandpa Mixson a birthday cake this morning. Finally got done about 2 o’clock, and Morris got home about 3 o’clock & we then went out to Mixsons for Grandpa’s Birthday Supper. Morris is sure feeling bad. Hope he’s not getting anything.

Sunday, October 11, 1959

Went to S.S. and church this morning. We all took a nap this afternoon. And I fixed a nice supper. Morris felt bad all day and stayed in bed all day practically.

Monday, October 12, 1959

Had 47 to Sunbeams today. And tonight Agnes’s father was killed by lightening, and she went all to pieces, so I’m going to keep Donny for her so she can go to her mother’s in Hawthorne.

Tuesday, October  13, 1959

Well I kept Donny (who is 3 1/2 mos.) all night and I had a hard time getting all the kids to school and with a baby so Melba (lives right in back of Agnes and they are real good friends) is taking care of him today and tonight. I was up with the baby at 5 o’clock this morning, and I’m dead tonight. Went to bed at 8:30 tonight. Ironed today too.

Wednesday, October 14, 1959

Well Melba bought the baby over this morning as she had to town and then she’s to the funeral this afternoon.  What an afternoon! I took care of Windy & Case for Doris too while she took the girls to tap and both Windy & Donny tried to out do each other in crying. Kirk finally came after Donny about 6 o’clock.

Friday, October 16, 1959

Had to go by the church, the bank, get the cloths dryed, (it rained today), and then get groceries. Had chili for supper & then we took the kids out to Mixsons to spend the night and tomorrow so we can go to Jacksonville. Went by Mom & Dads so Morris can fix a machine and & talked to mom until 10 o’clock.

Saturday, October 17, 1959

Betty, Billy & use go off for Jacksonville at about 8:30 this morning. Betty and & shopped at Sears while the boys go our car a 1000 mile checkup. We ate lunch at the Sears dining room (beautiful place), went to the Baptist Book Store, & then to the show. We got the kids from Mixsons and go home dead tired at 9:30.

Went to S.S. & church this morning. We all took a nap this afternoon & stayed home & went to bed early tonight.

Monday, October 19, 1959

Had 49 children at Sunbeams today. The kids really seem to love it.

Got home at 5 o’clock fixed supper and went to my S.S. class meeting at Marie Lewis’s house tonight. Melba (my neighbor) took care of the kids.

Tuesday, October  20, 1959

Wet not circle meeting today. We stated the new year and I go Emma Lee for my prayer sister. Went to the school this afternoon and had conferences with all the kids teacher. They all are doing grade level work. Brenda is in the first reading group, & Larry in the middle group in his class.  Washed screens, blinds & windows in the kitchen this afternoon too.

Wednesday, October 21, 1959

Mother came over this morning & talked while I ironed. She ate lunch with us took, said she’d probably go to Atlanta next week to take care of Danah & Vandy as Carol’s having her tonsils out. Asked if I’d take care of Corky. I had to take the girls to tap lessons too this afternoon, & it’s raining!

Rain again today. Hope it don’t rain for the weekend as its’ homecoming. Cleaned house good today.

Friday, October 23, 1959

Took all the kids to town with me this morning, to get Brenda new shoes, & Grandma Mixson a birthday present. We then bought groceries. Kids didn’t have to go to school today as it was a Conference day, and the Homecoming parade this afternoon. I didn’t think it was as good as usual but then its’ been raining all week & many didn’t get a float made.

Saturday, October 24, 1959

Took the kids out to Betty & Billy’s this morning, and Mom, Dad, Corky, Morris & I went to the Fla.-LSU game this afternoon. It was really good & we had a nice time. Afterwards we ate supper with Betty & Billy. Oh, Brenda made her first cookies this morning without a recipe. Her grandma Mixson taught her!

Sunday, October 25, 1959

Morris, Kids & I all went to S.S. & church this morning. We ate bacon & eggs for lunch & took a nap in the afternoon. Went over to Mom’s for awhile & then came home & fixed chicken & noodles for supper.

Monday, October 26, 1959

Mom left for Atlanta today so Daddy brought Corky over about supper time to stay the week with us. Carol is having her tonsils out & Mom is going to take care of her children. Washed & had Sunbeams this afternoon so I tired tonight. Wet to bed early.

Tuesday, October 27, 1959

Got my ironing done today, and had Daddy over for supper tonight. He’s leaving for Atlanta in the morning.

Cleaned house real good today & it took me all day.

Thursday, October 29, 1959

Rained most all day today so I didn’t feel like doing much. Went to Marie’s house to plan our Sunbeam meetings for Nov. Corky is acting pretty good this time.

Friday, October 30, 1959

Took Susie & I all morning in town, & after lunch we got groceries. Morris got paid & I spent 30.00 on groceries today. Bought myself a new hat and 2 sweaters in town. Corky took care of the kids tonight & Morris & I went downtown to the show. Really enjoyed it.

Halloween

Morris took the boys downtown to get a haircut & he got new shoes this morning while I cleaned house & washed.

Kids took a nap so they could stay up to go Trick or Treating tonight, and of course I had to take them! Brenda dressed up as a Gypsy, David a pink rabbit, & Larry a skeleton. They all had fun.
