Subject: Time and Why's?
Why are your parents letting go of their house? When my mother let go of
her's/ours to move into her last place, I experienced a sense of loss
and "oh-no-ness," not being able to describe the emotion more clearly.
And for you, that has been your only F-O home. We had several over the
years.
volunteering does take time. I promised to myself that if I took the
tutoring project on, I would see it through. Laubach requires the
promise of a year, although I'm sure they don't enforce it. My year was
up in January.
Scouting--I enjoyed it as a child. I regret that Somewhere my
mother/sister disposed of my sash with all my merit badges. I think I
would enjoy the camping, and it is such a good thing that you are
willing to take the time to do it. My boss at the Hospital leads a
troop, its a medical troop. He asked me to speak once, but they meet on
Monday's and I think I will have class on Monday's for the next three
years.
I know what you mean about childhood possessions. Didn't you blow
yourself up, hurt your face, playing with your chemistry set? One of the
things I miss about not having had a child is passing on things I loved
and love to another person, whether that's the love of books, or nature,
or cooking or whatever. I think it would also be fun to purchase things
for a child and provide materially, as well as spiritually and
emotionally. It is, however, an enormous task. One of my enduring
fantasies was that I would adopt an older child, who would probably be
unadoptable, and help them on with their life. Even now I think about
it. I have a good-sized two bedroom apartment here in Montgomery, but
I'm not certain the fantasy is realistic with my energies being split
between work, law school, and my mother in Florida (although I don't
devote actual time to her, many times my thoughts go to her).
I don't know what to say when looking forward to lunch becomes a
highlight of the days. However, today they have fish almondine which I
like and also a rice and green peas with curry which is simple, but
which I also like. I've had real flurries of activity and helped a lot
of people in the morning, but again it has slowed down.
Have a good weekend. I'll be tutoring, then briefing. In fact I have to
go to the law library tonight to xerox cases to study. BOTH my
professors kept us as late as possible this week. The library stays
open quite late, but by 9:30 I'm ready to leave as soon as class lets
out. Its virtually straight home and to bed to be back here at 8:00 a.m.
