Subject: Re: Music and stories
I miss read what you wrote, I took the "just kidding" to apply to my
being a good cook (which was questionable). We (mostly my wife, I am the
assistant) tend to cook two or three dishes on the weekend and have
leftovers during the week. Both of our schedules don't leave much time
for cooking during the week. We also eat out a lot. We got into the
salmon for a while as it was inexpensive at the store. I like it grilled
with a touch of Dijon mustard and lemon juice on it.
I still listen to a fair amount of classical music, mainly on NPR during
working hours. Beethoven's Fifth Piano Concerto is something you got me
into and is still one of my favorites. [link] I have several recordings
of it. My wife has a pretty good selection of "new age" music which I
find OK for meditation or relaxation but otherwise is mostly boring.
Some of the "new age" jazz is pretty good though, particularly the piano
pieces. In the car I had been listening to oldies (70's & 80's) for many
years but a couple of years ago I got tired of listening to the same old
songs and started to listen to a progressive rock station. I also wanted
to be more "in touch" with the new generation (daughter's) of music. I
didn't want to become like my parents and only like oldies. Some of the
new music is pretty good although there is much of it I don't care for.
Alannis Morissette, Natalie Merchant and Sheryl Crow are three I
particularly like. For some reason I tend to like the women singers.
There was one song I liked and asked my wife to get me the CD since she
was going to the store. I didn't know the group only the name of the
song. She got home and said "I'm not sure this is what you wanted but
the young guy at the store said it was the right CD." The name of the
group was "The Buthole Surfers". The one song I liked was the only one I
liked on the whole CD. Some of their songs sounded like wailing cats, I
now call them "The Buthole Sufferers" as they sound like they are
suffering from some ailment, probably from the general area of their
butholes. (a bit of poor humor).
I often thought of writing a novel but "never got around to it." I
always thought I could write a pretty good sci-fi story but I have had
more of a desire to write some drama about life and relationships. Last
week Julie had an uncle die while his wife and he was at their summer
home in Texas. Their grown son (an elliptic) and daughter (who is gay)
flew to Texas to drive their mother home, a four day trip to Kansas. On
their way home the son had a seizure. I thought, what a great story,
imagine what kind of
adventures and conversations they could have had. I even spent one of
those hours when I laid awake at night thinking about "events" and
openings for the story.
Perhaps someday I will write that story.
Larry
This is my story.
