I agree about Yanni, although I'm not that musically sophisticated about
why he is simplistic. That's why I use that music either to go to sleep
by, or to daydream by. Some highly complex music is what I call too
"tedious" for my tastes. I have to be careful about that when I might
choose to either buy music or go to a concert. While I certainly enjoy
Bach etc., I have to work on enjoying Bruckner for example, although I'm
not musically knowledgeable enough to even say one is more complex or
musically sophisticated than the other.
Have you heard of Tomita. I think I learned of him after you left
Gainesville. Back then I bought a few albums. It is electronically
synthezized music. I'm not recommending it expressly, I just thought of
you when I was flipping through my albums and I saw it, as sometimes you
like (liked) experimental things.
I wish you still had your jeans. I saw someone who had taken old
sentimental t- shirts and framed them. I never thought of doing that.
However, it gave me an idea of what to do with my old karate t-shirts
which I won't part with, although I will never wear them again as they
are all "smalls."
I have been fatigued this week. The professors really pushed in law
school this week. Fortunately one of my professors at the end of class
said we would not be meeting next week. That is a rare and welcomed
treat to have an extra night off. It's the first one this semester.
Every semester there will usually be one or two class cancellations for
one reason or another and they are gifts from heaven. I enjoy the
classes, but the schedule weighs heavily.
I skipped lunch today. I didn't finish all that rush of incoming work
until almost 1:30 when the cafeteria closes, so I just decided to skip
it altogether. I usually eat at about that time, but I think I may stop
and get some steamed shrimp for a treat, as I haven't had any in a long
time.
Did you ever get in touch with Wendy and Sean? There are a few people
like them in my life whom I would like to "find" again, but I've had no
luck on the internet. One friend Rebecca Morgan was in law school in
Gainesville when I was at UCF. She visited me at UCF, but we had some
disagreement about something, and she went back early. Then I moved,
etc., and we lost track. We had been friends for years in Gainesville
and at AGH. I've searched all the law databases, but she could have
married and I would never find her.
Thirty year reunion. That should be something. Writing you has given Me
the yen to see Gainesville and visit some of the spots I once knew.
Also, I am forgetting the names. I know I lived in a place I think that
was called Willow Creek--is that right--its down from Shands. I also
lived in Tumblin Creek. Willow Creek is where I met Fred. He lived
there, actually right next door to me. But that may not be the name of
the place. It doesn’t' sound right. Also, I would like to see the Sink
Hole once again.[1] It was fenced off and turned
into a preserve, but I can recall going there and slipping and sliding
up and down it many times. You must have too.
I graduated from college the year you graduated from high school, 1970.
Did you enroll in U of F right away? I just read on the USA Online
yesterday that U of F has just now decided to require all students to
own a computer or have access to one. The article said they are the
largest school to make such a decision.
My day is winding down, but is only 2:00. You may have a ton of mail in
your box from me when you come in Monday.
[1] By “sink hole” she means the now Devils Millhopper State Park in Gainesville which is unique geological sinkhole 500 feet across and 120 feet deep.
