Subject: Boogie Man
I'm at the public library where I stopped to check some law references
on the way back from seeing Boogie Nights. There are movies and movies.
I thought it was a very good movie, however, many people walked
out--well not many--it was not a full audience, and a handful did. I am
very glad I went to see it. Also, it's at a theatre which only charges a
buck for any show.
I wrote something which I later thought "dumb" about my e-mail being
delivered late and some internal e-mail I sent to a friend within the
hospital being delivered late. Then I got sort of paranoid or confused.
If my mail resides on the Hot Mail computer, it is not "resident" on any
hospital computer. My HM box showed no mail, until yours popped up,
seemingly late, at which time my HM box did show mail. From what
understand, the hospital could not intervene in that. However, it was
very curious that a message I sent also arrived late. At meetings of
librarians I have gone to, at which there are often very sophisticated
computer people. The “word" is don't use company systems for e-mail. It
was one of those persons who told me about HM some months before I
started writing you. I don't like the fact that I also don't have
"administrative" control over my computer, at least not fully. I did go
in and change my internet settings so that nothing is archived, i.e. the
pages I visit. There have been several lawsuits over e-mail. One I
clearly remember is a company policy against dating relationships, and
the company used e-mail to prove the relationship. The e-mail was not
illegal but the relationship was. We do have a policy that e-mail or
internet use should be for purposes considered business. In fact, it is
posted on my wall. My rationale is that I do very little goofing off at
work and never spend time on the phone. Also, I don't take breaks. So,
that will be my defense. Also, I am not using the hospital GW system at
all. I store my copies in Yahoo. Oh well, live dangerously.
What irony, a high powered computer job and the computer is screwed up.
I thought it was just in libraries and hospitals where that happened. My
system is really great now that "they" have fixed it. I'm going to fine
tune it with what I can control. It has spoiled me for being able to buy
a home system. I have a giant monitor. Our weather is moving backwards
as it has turned freezing now that it is Spring. Montgomery was very
retroactively scared Friday morning because a tornado was sighted, but
every one was "alseep" in the early a.m., and the sirens don't penetrate
"bedrooms." It is the tornado system that moved on into Georgia and
wiped out schools and killed several people, also while they slept. It
struck an empty elementary school that two hours later would have been
full. I read that on March 21 back in the 1930's a tornado came through
Alabama and killed over 200 people, and at about that same date in the
1930's a tornado killed over 200 people in the same Georgia town that
got struck this time. Anyway, I slept through it all.
Back to the law books, briefly, then home. Elizabeth
