Subject: Discordant Day
I checked the web and Dumbarton Oaks in Washington was where the charter
to establish the United Nations was done, back in the 40's. It
does sound like Jasmine Hill.
The day is mildly discordant as there was a hospital presentation at
7:00 which I said I would attend "if I woke up" which I did, but now I
am feeling the effects of early morning rising. Interestinging I woke up
at 5:30 despite the time change and went ahead and came in. The
presentation was on confidentiality, a special presentation of the
Ethics Committee. Free (your choice)breakfasts were served and
several people spoke, including the hospital attorney. I learned
some interesting things about law in Alabama, although I don't know if
what I learned is similar to other states. For example, if you are
"under age", i.e. under 19 in Alabama, BUT if you go on your own to a
hospital or health clinic AND are over age 14, then your parents DON'T
have access to your records, unless it's an abortion. IF your
parents come with you, they do, but if you go alone, they don't.
Interesting.
Also adding to the discord is some major work to do with rush deadlines,
but I can't really do the work here, which means I may have to go to
another library. (Approaching finals I want a regularity in my
work day.)
In the positive column is that I got a call from the law school and my
Wed. night class was cancelled because the prof's father is ill. I enjoy
the class, but welcome the free time.
Last night I got out of class in time to watch the PBS special on from
"Jesus to Christ" which included some of my favorite people (Elaine
Pagels) and some discussion of the Dead Sea Scrolls. Although it
stayed on until 11 o'clock I watched it, which is why I said I would
only come in this morning "if I woke up." I found it very
intriguing. I think in sum you could say it was about the "historical
Jesus" and explored the writings and commentaries and how the New
Testament writings arose. The second half is tonight.
I got "scared" a little last night about the Contracts exam. Last
year the highest grade was 75. I've got to "hit it."
