Good morning. I thought I would get off a quick note before things
got busy. I had a good weekend. The weather was perfect,
bright, sunny, 70 degrees, trees with their new leaves, like something
on a Easter postcard. Saturday I went to the local computer show.
They have them up here almost every weekend at different places around
DC. It is mainly a bunch of small time computer vendors who set up
tables and sell computer hardware/software at big discounts.
Sometimes the stuff looks questionable, used, previous versions or
marked "OEM, not for resale" but one can get some great deals. I
bought a new color printer last week and was looking for some software
to make greeting & business cards, clipart, etc. Picked up a
previous version of PrintMaster Gold for $25 (new around $150).
Sunday we re-landscaped our garden out front. Our townhouse has
about a 10x10 "front yard" which we have planted with various plants.
We had planted some of the azaleas too close together when they were
small and thus had to move them apart. We basically moved things
around, planted some new ground cover grass stuff and put in some spring
perennials. With such a beautiful day it was great to be working
outside.
I can't believe a state would have a holiday for Confederate's Memorial
Day but then from what you told me about Alabama it would make sense.
Julie had worked full time at her first job after finishing her MSW but
the place she was at had some real bad management. After being
there for about six months this part time job came open in a group that
she had heard really good things about and so she took it. She had
the opportunity last month to go full time when one of the other 1/2
time persons left but she decided against it. To get her license
she needs so many hours of face-to-face client work with on-going
clients over a 2 yr period. Doing emergency service work she is on
call a lot, ER work but not that much actual on-going counseling.
She decided to stay part time and either find another part time or full
time that has more f-2-f. The licensing laws varying from state to
state is a real problem which Julie often talks about.
You might want to check out the April edition of Communications of The
ACM. It is all about Digital Libraries. The monthly "Legally
Speaking" column discusses some interesting legal issues with digital
libraries and copyrights. It also has an interesting article
titled "Yin and Yang in Computer Science" which starts out how right vs.
left sided brain persons affect computer programming.
Till, later.
