Subject: Monday Morning Rush
I'm eating yogurt at my desk and a banana for lunch and writing at the
same time, because I am so incredibly busy. I just finished one
project which took all morning and have several more to do. In contrast
to you, I was not as energetic this weekend in terms of getting out, but
I did accomplish necessary, "planning" type tasks, as well as get
materials organized for finals. I also finished my taxes and decided on
what to put into an IRA, so I could take care of that this morning,
which I did.
I also made homemade soup from the turkey bones which I had left over
from my turkey which the hospital gave us back at Thanksgiving or X-mas,
I forget which. I sort of cleaned out the freezer at the same time
and some odds and ends of canned veges. It turned out quite good. One
thing I have found which makes a homemade soup really good is to dump in
about half a jar of salsa. I usually use mild, but I suppose if
you like "hot" soup, you could use hot. I figured we were near the end
of cool weather, and this may be the last appropriate time for homemade
soup. Also, as an Easter treat I baked a lamb roast, which I
haven't had in ages, as I seldom have "meat" esp. in "chunks."
I also spent significant quiet time Sat. morn. with a notebook and
coffee, making notes about "my time," things I want or need to do
regularly and routinely and sporadically, and how I can mesh the two.
For example, when can I walk or exercise? What I did was just list
things I wanted to do, or should be doing, on a separate sheet and on a
separate sheet list my "time slots." Then I tried to cross match.
For example, since I have been writing you, I have virtually quit taking
"formal" breaks, but that means the small things I used to do on breaks
don't get done, such as reading the newspaper, or writing up bills, etc.
Also, I'm not "using" my time in the mornings that well, since I'm
either leaving too little time to get ready, or getting up way early
(6:00), but without any real plans. I also know that I seem to really
need "unstructured" time though, and particularly time to read non-law
stuff.
So I made lots of notes, mainly as a new plan for the "summer" and
hopefull I can be more efficient in things like "running to the store"
or "needing gas" etc. because I will have times planned when I do things
like that.
What is the ACM, which you said had the digital library stuff. Is it a
magazine. I'd really like to see the article, but wasn't clear
where or what it was?
Alabama is still recovering from the tornado. I suppose you have
heard it was an F5, which is quite rare, and the strongest and most
deadly, with winds over 280 miles per hour. Apparently there is
little one can do, as even buildings with steel reinforcement bend and
give way. Of course, I heard on the radio that the black
population was protesting because they claim there were "helped" after
or later than the whites. Everything in Alabama gets racialized.
Well, my 30 minutes zoomed by. My first final is NEXT Monday night
and then I have one the following Friday. Not too bad a schedule,
but the one on Friday next is the killer.
There is absolutely no consistency in the counseling and M.S.W. etc.,
licensing laws. I personally don't think Master's level people
should ever be "totally" unsupervised and should retain supervisors for
consultation.
When I took my books back to my counselor she showed me her "business
cards" which she had just made on her computer. They were really
nice. I was very impressed as she had just bought the computer and
doesn't know anything. I sent her an e-mail once and she "lost
it." (It was about how to get into the Myers-Brigg site).
Time to go. Elizabeth
