Thanks for the explanation of your work. I read through your
resume which you sent, but I still didn't understand the "day in day
out" stuff. In my positions as a librarian elsewhere I went to
many, many presentations on "computerizing" the library or automating
it. In fact just before I left the public I was on a team with
about three other people to evaluate which automation system to
purchase. Each company had put together these massive folders on
what their system would do, plus we went to two day long presentations
on everything. Most people at the library were so ignorant of
anything, I think some of it was a waste of time. Plus, after all
the work, the Director got it set in her mind that she "wanted" a
certain system. If we tried to rationally discuss the others, we'd
get all sorts on non-verbal dis-interest signals. Basically, in
the end, she chose the vendor she wanted, which was an absolutely poor
choice, and all the professional librarians around sort of thought it
laughable. Anyway, that's history, but I understand now more what
you "do." From what you said, you have a lot of interaction with
people. How do you have to dress?
I'm tired, and want to get off. It has been moderately slow today,
at last after hectic last week and Monday.
Once again, I read on the NYT on the internet we have a very bad storm
system headed here tonight (Tues) which is supposed to bring hail, etc.
This is getting repetitive.
I've put in place some of my time/scheduling plans, and they seem to be
working. I know this sounds feeble, but I'm walking every other
day for 30 minutes, which is working better than every day. Now, I
look forward to it. I shopped on Sunday morning, which was a
decision I had to make. The stupid problem was that if I shopped
on Thurs, or Friday, and wanted fresh stuff for the next week for
lunches, etc., it would get old before Monday. I finally decided
I'd shop on Sunday morning, which is actually a good time with little
traffic either on the bypass or in the store. A trivial
arrangement, but I'm trying hard to diminish "erraticness" in my
schedule--needing fruit or milk, etc.
I had some interesting things to tell you, odds and ends, but my mind is
rather "fried" right now by studying and the exam, and I'll have to
think of what they are later. Oh, the couple I knew who worked in
chemistry in Gainesville were the Torelli's I believe. I wonder if they
are still around?
I'll go rather than ramble. It's slow today, but I can't really
study here. Elizabeth
