Subject: Heat Wave
It is stifling here in Montgomery, which always makes me think of trying
to find a more pleasant place to live eventually. Last night some
men in class were talking about Utah, that it actually does not get the
severe winters like other states in that area, and that it is very
pleasant there. I interviewed for a position in Ogden and really
thought it was beautiful there. There had been a snowstorm earlier in
the week, which was quite unusual, and snow was still on the ground when
I visited. However, on what I call Colorado style everyone was
wearing shorts, with hiking boots and thick socks. It is one job I
sort of regret not getting. Ogden is just outside Salt Lake City.
There is a black new VW on the lot near where I live and it is gorgeous,
but black would be totally unfeasible in Montgomery due to the intense
heat of summer, unless you had access to a garage for parking during the
day. I've thought about asking if the dealer would let me do a test
drive, although realistically I have no plans of buying one.
I am unexplicably very tired, and it has been difficult for me to get to
work both Mon. and today. Last night after class, I went straight
to bed, but even doing so it was 10:30 as class lasted until after nine
without a break at all, which didn't help my fatigue. I'm wondering if I
might have gotten mildly dehydrated while on the trip, because I don't
recall now that I drank a lot of water while down there and it was
intensely hot and muggy. Either that or I'm correct that I was
more tired than I realized and once I got my contracts grade and relaxed
a bit, the fatigue has really hit me.
I heard news on NPR about Washington's mayor and whether he will run or
not. The AL gov. is making quite a fool of himself and some think
he is jeopardizing his re-election. He just will not let go of the
prayer in public schools issue and has said that the Bill of Rights does
not apply to Alabama and that if AL doesn't agree with the Supreme
Court, then Alabama should just defy the Court's orders. There
just is no choice for gov. though, in my opinion.
The Sierra retreat is quite nice in location, but every time I go down
there and we go out shopping or something, the people in the nearby area
seem sort of red necky to me, despite some scatterings of upscale shops.
I don't think I would like living in that whole area, which includes
Panama City, Ft. Walton, Sandestin, and all those places.
Tell me what places you've thought of as "ideal" to retire in. We
talked about this before, I think. I'm getting serious about doing
more research on this. It makes me also wish that the law school
would get ABA accreditation, so that I could go anywhere and take their
bar.
Well, it's 4:30. I did catch the last X-files, which you asked
about. There certainly is a cliff hanger every time the season
ends. I'll be first in line at the movie.
