Subject: Home early
I'm calling it a day at almost 3 o'clock because I cannot stay awake,
and yet need to make it through three hours of Con Law. I'm still
numb and the events at some level don't seem real. I remember our
conversation about not wanting to live out our lives in a home with a
deteriorating, chronic illness. My mother's communication was that
she wanted her ashes scattered at Sanibel Island. Have you ever
been there?
We moved to Florida in the mid 50's and year after year spent each
summer at Sanibel, when there was only a ferry to get there, before the
bridge was constructed. My mother came very close to purchasing a
condo on the island when she retired, but must have decided otherwise.
I love Sanibel as well, however, the price of staying there has become
outside an ordinary budget. We used to get a full size cabin-house
for probably around 100/week. Some months back I had checked the
prices there and couldn't find anything for less than around 125 a day.
I think when I was sort of staying with you at your first house was when
I took my last trip down there (but that is only approximate). I recall
I took my bike and biked all over the island. I fished and caught
a large fish which I cooked and ate. Also, I found a very
beautiful shell on the beach which I gave to my mother the last time I
visited her. I think when I went it was about 59/night and I only
stayed possibly 2-3 days. There was a librarian position open
there when I graduated, but it was not paying enough to actually live on
the island--although I fantasized many ways of making that possible.
Well, I'm gone. Elizabeth
