Things are very slow here also. I basically have done about all I
can do on the new project and did a presentation to our management last
Wednesday as to my plan. We now need to present it to the ATF and
requested a meeting this week but, as I expected, no one is there this
week so it will have to wait to Jan. I spent most of yesterday
reading magazines. I read the December Wired which I have had for
several weeks but haven't had time to read it at home. I already
got January's Wired which I'll read today. December's issue did
not have a lot of interest in it. In spite of my "standard" review I did
get about a 7% raise. They did insult me somewhat by giving me a
$500 year end bonus. $500 after taxes is hardly anything at all.
I have always found a $1000 was like the bare minimum so that's why I
say $500 is an insult!
Julie has the same problems with hair cutting as you do, she will travel
way out of her way to go to someone who she finds does a good job.
Even so she often complains they screwed up her hair.
What a pain about your neighbors, if the one that moved out was not bad
enough now you have another. I don't think I could ever live in an
apartment complex. I sometimes find our townhouse with only two
neighbors is too much. I look forward to a standalone house again.
Congratulations on your A.
I just started reading a historical novel called Ship of Gold[1].
It is based on real events and the characters are real and even use
there real names. I had read about the book somewhere and then my
brother sent it to me for my birthday. It is about a steam paddle
wheel boat from 1849-50 that shuttled people and their gold from the
California gold fields. The boat ran between Panama and New York
and it went down in a storm. The book starts with a detailed
account of it's sinking reconstructed from survivor stories and then
jumps to today and goes into the search and recovery of the ship and its
gold. Somewhat of a Titanic type story.
Well I'm 46 today. I don't have any plans for today but Julie,
Anne and I are going to dinner tomorrow night. As for things I
would want, back with Julie of course but I would like that piano.

[1] Ship of Gold in the Deep Blue Sea, by Gary
Kinder is about the 1857 steam ship the
SS Central
America that, laden with 9.1 tons of gold, got caught in a hurricane
and sank losing 425 passengers.
Birthdays for many years had always been a disappointment for me, this one being no exception, spending it alone. Yes, we went out to dinner the next night, but it was more for Anne’s birthday, which is the day before mine.
