I'm so glad its Friday. The week has seemed like an eternity.
I don't know if I wrote about dreading my Thurs. night class, but it was
not at all what I expected from the prof's syllabus description.
Basically he lectured and explained things very, very well, which is
relief because Civil Procedure rules are a nightmare. I guess the
lesson is simply things aren't always what you expect them to be even
when you are told they will be that way. Did you see Dead Man
Walking. I read the book and saw the movie. You may have
already gone home, but it is the Sun. night movie this week, I think.
No breaks on getting out of class early on Thurs. nights though--at
about 20 til nine he said, do you want your10 minute break and then
we'll go home at 9:30 or do you want me to finish and we'll go home at
9:20 (people rolled their eyes up in their heads at the precision of
9:20). Everyone chose 9:20 and no break (some people drive 2 or
more hours to get here for class, which I guess is what you did from
Melbourne. Wasn't that quite a drive doing that? How far was
it, anyway? MLK Day is Mon. which is a big deal here, but we don't
get it off. I don't care, except maybe I would go see the new gov
inaugurated, which happens to be on the same day. It's SUCH a
change. Jimmy Buffet will sing and then of course the group
ALABAMA. Did I write about my neighbors waking me up at 12:15.
It happened again last night, right around 12:15 I woke up to this thud,
thud sound. I put my ear to their wall and sure enough it was
coming from them. I simply could not understand it as I know they
go to work early, one of them at around 5:30. So, I called the
landlord at 12:30 (bet she loved that). She called the police.
They came out around 1:00. Do you know what it was. It
turned out they had an alarm radio that was going off at midnight.
It was set very loud. The police had to wake him up, as he was
sleeping through it. I heard the police say "unplug it" because
apparently the neighbor said some dumb thing about how they kept
forgetting to turn it off, or something like that. Anyway, that's
what was happening. They were asleep in the backroom. So the
police told them they would get off this time, but next time it was
360.00. Montgomery has very strict noise ordinance laws that were
enacted by the mayor because of all the loud car stereos favored by a
large portion of our citizenry. If you can hear a car radio five
feet from the car its like an outrageous fine--250 or something.
Anyway--two nights of getting woken up has made me feel kind of "ill" as
I have not had enough sleep. Hope you have a good weekend.
The weather here is nice. THIS TIME I will go the alternative
movie on the weekend. I heard that PI just came out on video
anyway. It might be hard to find, but it is supposed to be
interesting. Elizabeth P.S. I'm still plugging away at
Charles Dickens Old Curiosity Shop. It is very good, but slow
reading.
I doubt I'm 1/4 way through.
