Subject: MLK Day
You may not be at work, but I am. I'm glad I'm here because I have
had one project after another, and if I had been off I would never have
caught it all up. Much of the town is off because it is a state
holiday and much of the town is employed by the state. Also, the
new gov is being inaugurated. My friends who work for the state
think I have a bad deal because the hospital doesn't give me all the
holidays they get (Confederate's Memorial Day and MLK Day, etc.) I don't
mind though, because who wants to have a day off when the whole town is
crawling with people off. The theatres are crowded and the malls,
and the streets. Its much nicer to have a day off like I did last
week when I could go to the theatre and have no one else there.
The hospital gives us paid time off days which equal the holidays the
state gets, but we get to use them when we want. People think
working for the state is nice though, because they've got it fixed to
where practically every month they get a Monday off. Nothing else
much new. Gladly, because of the holiday though, there is no
school tonight (Hurray). It has been very busy at work today. I
just now got some lunch which was pretty good. It was an instant
oriental soup imported from Canada. We have a store here called
"Big Lots" and basically it sells whole lots of odds and ends of stuff
which they get when stores go out of business, etc. I like to
"browse" there because sometimes I get these imported items that you
never see in the states (or at least not in Montgomery) and they are
interesting or unique and at really reduced prices. I got four
cups of the soup thinking it might be a good emergency lunch and it
certainly paid off today (our cafeteria closes at 1:30 and that's it,
except for a relatively expensive, and not in my eyes very good, deli
place) After all our discussions about artichokes one day I was in
Big Lots and got several jars for practically nothing and once I got an
enormous jar of Kosher deli coarse ground mustard that was out of site.
My best find once was cans of International flavored coffee, which sell
for about 3.30 in the store. I use it at work and when I travel.
I think I bought about 10 cans for two bucks each. Sat. I
studied/briefed, but watched some of the closing stuff on the
impeachment. What a mess Clinton got himself into! What was
interesting about the X-files was the mention of nanotechnology. I
remember at my first library job ordering new books for the "hot new
field," but unfortunately I wasn't still there when they came in.
Well, its a good day to be off in the woods or hiking, which I imagine
you may be doing, if you weather is anywhere as pleasant as ours is
today. Tonight I AM GOING TO THE CAPRI ALTERNATIVE THEATRE.
Big Caps, because I can't let this movie get by me. Elizabeth
