Subject: Mergers
I can see where mergers can be stressful. Many of the depts. of
the three hospitals merged here recently (Respiratory Therapy, Dietary,
etc.) The "heads" had to reapply for the new position, along with
new candidates. Two of them "lost out" usually, to the one person
selected. I thought the letter announcing their job loss was a little
cold. It was "Lets thank these people for the years they've given
us." Wow--SO LONG--don't let the door hit you in the behind on the
way out, although I've heard some of them can sort of re-position, for
lower salaries. I went to a seminar on "retirement planning for
women" yesterday here at the hospital. Unless I want to get
riskier in what I'm saving, there is no way I could probably retire,
unless I lived very cheaply. Still, I can't rule that out.
If I could get 10 acres of land somewhere, I wouldn't mind that, and a
garden, as long as I could get books, music, and the internet.
Plus, my law degree is my retirement plan. I read recently that
systems analysts are among the groups which enjoy their work the
most--but I've forgotten whether you still call yourself that or not.
What you're doing sounds like fun. At times I've thought designing
a web page would be fun. There are certainly some which are
extremely well put together. Well, I guess you were fortunate that
your hearing came back like that, although I hope you're not left with
the ringing in your ears. That is annoying. I had that
(tinnitus) when I lived at UCF. It was very annoying, esp. because
I was very much into meditating. Sometimes the ringing would be
like morse code messages, beeping. I had it evaluated and the dr.
wanted to give me steroids, which I refused. Eventually it went
away, perhaps when I moved to AL, but occasionally I have a little bit.
I wish I could enjoy Spring Break which starts Monday, but I'm totally
worried about exams. My professor AGAIN got ill half way through
class. She just can't recover. I've gotten used to downtime
in my job. I will probably have less of it.
The work load is just very erratic. Well, I'd like to read the NYT
before going home. Tell me again that name of the book you read
just recently, if you remember, not the historical one, but the sci fi
one.
I wanted to look for it. I'm not sure I can find it buried in all
the messages. Elizabeth
