What a pain your car situation has been (is?). You seem to have
hit on three of the worst car repair situations: 1) repair shop claiming
things wrong when they are not, 2) charging you more than they
originally quoted, and, 3) getting your car back and it not being fixed!
I generally can avoid #1 by having them just fix what I ask for but I do
have an advantage of knowing something about cars and usually know what
is wrong. #2 is harder to deal with, I have found, as you did,
that usually you can argue with them and they will drop the price.
#3 only happens once per repair shop, I won't go back there again.
It happened to me when I first moved up here and took the Volvo in for a
three minor things and the next day had all three go wrong. Since
then I found a couple of places that do a good job and provide accurate
quotes. It was the least they could do to give you a loner.
I could imagine what your blood pressure was like. We have cases
of what they call "road rage" up here where people in cars just go crazy
run other motorist off the road or sometimes start shooting at other
people.
Congratulations on the best paper. Not much happened this past
weekend. Weather has been really nice and I haven't had to run the
air at all. I did the Reston Century bike ride on Sunday, actually
I did the 1/2 metric (31 miles). I haven't been riding as much
this year partially because of the oppressive heat this summer and
partially due to work travel. The yoga place I go to does a yearly
week trip in February to Mexico which they have yoga classes twice a
day. If I can get the money together (around $1600) I might go.
Sounds like fun and Feb. is one of the coldest months here. Hope
you get your car back and it works this time.
