Subject: Happiness
Am I happy, truly happy? That's always a good question. At
time I would say yes other times I would say no. In general I
would say I'm do not have a "happy" type of personality. I tend to
be more logical, rational and consistent with emotions usually well in
check. There are many things about my life I enjoy and I would
equate joy with happiness. When I am out riding my bike on a beautiful
day and do 15-20 miles I sometimes just get a real sense of contentment,
enjoyment and, I would say, happiness. There are other times like
this, after a good racquetball or yoga workout, on days that it snows,
the first brisk cold days of winter, sitting around a campfire, hiking
Old Rag come to mind. What am I not happy about, relationships of
course, living alone mainly. Overall I would say that I'm more happy
than not, or at least. On the happy scale of 1 to 10 I would say I
range in the middle going between 4 to 7. I do enjoy my work, my
hobbies and generally my life. Truly happy? I wouldn't go
that far. What would it take for me to be truly happy?
Mainly a satisfying relationship, less work, more leisure, and more
money of course.

Upon reading this 24 years later I would say it describes my level of happiness pretty well. I get considerable satisfaction and happiness from the many things I do, but I think content would be a better description of me now. On the happiness scale, I would give me now an 8 or 9.
