Larry,
Thanks for the info. I hope you can keep your job position.
I'm now completing six months of trying to secure another position, i.e.
six months of unemployment--and I wasn't eligible for unemployment.
My friend just told me her husband looked for 12 weeks before getting
something. It is beginning to get stressful. I've having to
use 401 type retirement money to live on--sort of like burning the
furniture to stay warm. I have applied and applied for positions,
but can't seem to snag anything. I got one response this week from
a position in North Carolina which said "your resume was not referred to
the selection officer because you were not among the top applicants."
OKAY!!
I thought I was pretty well qualified myself!! I
applied for virtually an identical position in San Antonio, so it will
be interesting to see if they say the same thing.
Anyway, many positions now ask for web skills--usually just assisting
with keeping sites updated, perhaps not so heavily into original
design--but sometimes that too. Truthfully, it is a skill that
doesn't interest me much, although I certainly appreciate useful
websites that are well designed and useful and quick to load. For
example, I detest the FX site--whenever I want to check what movies they
might be showing on t.v., the way they lay out the info is very
cumbersome--it looks like someone wanted to show off what they could do
rather than design a site that presented information in a quick to use
form. The Sci Fi Channel, for example, doesn't have a "fancy"
schedule layout, but it is easy and quick to find out what is scheduled
to show.
I can't wait to see The Day the Earth Stood Still. The original
classic is one of my favorite movies.
Have you heard of the Trans-Siberian Orchestra. I just found out
they are playing locally, but tickets are (ouch!) 55.00.
