Larry,
Thanks for the tips. My teacher is also a nurse, so sometimes she
will tell me "don't do this one yet." That is interesting about
the cobra, as to why it is difficult. I'm more like a run over
cobra. I'm only commuting "sort of." It would be pretty
impossible to do it daily, as one way is just under four hours, 185
miles. Also, right now I have three evening classes, M, T, and
Thursday, and those don't get out until 9:00 p.m.
I rented a two bedroom apt. "down here." When I have a three day
weekend I drive back to Kosciusko, in part to mow grass and check on
things. But also, I have a freezer there full of food, so I cook
and bring a cooler of things down. Of course when the food is gone
up there, I'll stop that! I was lucky because my landlord made the
rental hassle free. He offered to keep the electricity and water
in his name, so I did not have to fool with deposits and such.
Also, he provides free Dish network which I don't have to pay for.
I've had Basic cable since I've been unemployed, so having oodles of
channels (most of which have no interest to me) is interesting.
I can't recall what I've told different people. The college that
laid me off--the very DAY I was hired down here, the Board came in and
fired everybody and said the college was closing. They kept a
skeleton crew to finish out the Fall semester. Lots of the people
there were total jerks when I was laid off, so I know it is mean of me,
but I hope they "enjoy" trying to match their cushy (for Mississippi)
salaries in the real world market. Although I am working really
hard for it, my salary here is pretty good for the South. It will
be just over 50,000, BUT the pits is I didn't start work until late
August. Also, I am working hard for it. My base salary is
lower, in the 40's, but all the teachers are asked to teach extra for
extra pay, but that brings my salary up as well. And the
good things is: I don't have to teacher summers at all!!! My
paycheck is divided into 12, but I only work 9 months. Once I finish
Spring semester in probably late May I'm "off" until August! I'm
looking forward to planning a trip.
This was a rocky year. I love the yoga class! It is pretty
gentle, but still rigorous for me!
