I just found out that Fred died at the very end of 2016, in December.  He was 82.  He didn't retire from the University until late 2012, and even then apparently kept on working.

Ah, Fred, her relationship with him greatly interfered with her relationship with me and her relationship with him was as tumultuous as mine with her.  Another older-younger story but I think it was more of an older college professor taking advantage of a younger student story. I surprised she didn’t say more, I would have liked to know how she felt about him dying.
