Paravant recovered from the glucose meter device incident and went on to complete their rugged computer, from TechMonitor magazine, 1989
Paravant claims its indestructible laptop, is water resistant, can withstand pressures up to 15,000 feet, can be left out in the blazing sunshine, and can operate at temperatures ranging from -27°F to 145°F, as well as having the rather more mundane features of 512Kb of memory, a supertwist liquid crystal display with 200 by 640 resolution screen, and four card expansion slots which, together, give 32Mb of solid state memory; many deep sea divers, Arctic explorers and Kalahari bushmen will find this MS-DOS 3.2.1 laptop a snip at $7,000 – and the batteries are claimed to last for from between 12 to 24 hours.
Paravant was acquired by DRS in 2002 for $92 million.
