Nebuchadnezzar or Nebie for short
For Christmas Julie, Anne and I drove down to spend it with Julie’s sister Louise, her husband and daughter who were living somewhere in North Carolina. Julie’s sister had a medium sized dog and they had just gotten a new kitten. The dog was some sort of Australian shepherd mix and it and the kitten were always playing together, it was quite entertaining to watch the little kitten chase the dog around and play attack the dog which the dog seemed to like. The kitten also liked to play with people and would hardly leave us alone. But they had a problem with the cat in that they said it wasn’t using its litter box and was peeing around in the house so they kept it locked up in the guest bathroom most of the time. Julie, Anne and I had great fun playing with the cat every time we used the bathroom. The week after Christmas Louise called and asked if we wanted the cat as it wasn’t working out for them. Jule turned to me and asked if I was ok with taking the cat and I immediately said yes. I really missed our beloved Tute but he had been gone for several months now and we had really liked the kitten, so we drove back down to Julie’s sister the next day and brought back the kitten. (it was the week between Christmas and New Year’s and things were really slow at work.) As for a name we thought he was a sophisticated cat so decided on Nebuchadnezzar but would call him Nebie. From the Broadway musical Cats, we would tell people he had three names, his sophisticated name, Nebuchadnezzar, his casual name, Nebie, and the name that only he knew.
Interesting enough was this was the second cat that Louise had given us, she had given us Tute 17 years earlier. It didn’t take us long to fall in love with Nebie and in time he would become my best buddy .
