William Mixson, son of Elijah Mixon, Jr. and his wife, Lucretia Price Mixson, was b. in Beaufort County, NC, Sept. 29, 1806, d, in Coffee County, AL, Oct. 8, 1880, bur. Old Tabernacle Cemetery, New Brockton, AL. He was a farmer, a blacksmith and a wagon maker.

A deeply religious man, he took an active interest in his local Methodist Church and was given Local Exhorter's license by his Conference. His parents died when he was young and he was partly reared by an uncle, Joseph Gautier and his wife.

More complete details of his life is given in an article prepared by one of his great grandsons, French Mixson, and is included in this book.

William bought and sold lands in Beaufort County, NC before moving to Georgia, and he always spelled the surname "Mixon" when in North Carolina. After moving to Georgia, he spelled it "Mixson". He married Julia Harris in Beaufort County, NC about 1828, b. 1808, d. Nov. 9, 1894, bur. Old Tabernacle Cemetery, New Brockton, AL
