I really like The Practice because the characters go through a lot of
"anguish" which seems real, but I've only seen about four episodes.
It's strange, I didn't "take" to Ally because she was sort of "ditzy" at
times, however, at other times I really liked her conversations.
Of course, these characters aren't real, but it's strange how we start
to talk of them that way. I heard a long "article" about Ally
McBeal on NPR just after you alerted me to the show. The
discussion was about the novel use of song. I resist taping too
many shows, because then I never get time to watch them anyway, or I
would tape The Practice. Even this week, being off, I have a
backlog of the Sunday night movie, X-files, and the second half of
Merlin. I decided to tape that because of my/your experience with
Moby Dick. I got sick of all the commercials. I'll zap
through it later. My "religious" watching still consists only of the
X-files, with ER my second faith. I will always tape the first,
however, but won't bother about the second, figuring I'll catch a rerun.
Your yard is about the size of my bedroom, a little larger. I
remember when I measured one of my bedrooms to figure out what size air
purifier to buy, and it was about that size. Sounds like you do a
lot with it though. I like the buffer zones. Strange, I was
driving on a street which still has "woods" just Sunday, and I thought
about writing the mayor to suggest that builders be made to keep
"buffer" zones or "hedgerows." I am fortunate because my apt. is
right in a farming zone practically. The people across the street
raise goats and have pasture and trees. Another "farm" is next
door and they have a huge tree buffer (one fell on my block of apts.
during the hurricane). So, I like the location. Across the
street also is "state" property, the Alabama Public Library Association.
That's where I walk. It's not a big area, because I can go four
times around in 30 minutes, but part is by trees.
There are also some blackberries, some of which I picked last night, and
a persimmon tree which every year is quite loaded. Each year I've
gathered some, but then never get around to using them and have had to
throw them out. I have a recipe for persimmon bread which is
fairly good. I've also seen some poke weed, which I've eaten in the
past, but want to read about before I eat again. It's used as a
spring tonic and has been eaten for years, but you have to use only the
young shoots and boil it, I think twice, and discard the water each
time. It has oxalic acid in it, which is the same thing as in spinach,
but more concentrated, which is the reason for the boiling. Even
after 2-3 boilings, it has more Vitamin C left than almost anything,
mega amounts.
I'll check out Arnica. I've searched the literature on
glucosamine. It sounds like the St. John's Wort of arthritis,
licensed for use for many years in Europe for arthritis, but not here.
I checked the medical databases and the few studies done have found no
side effects, and as good an effect as the NSAIDS. NSAIDS are so
harsh on the body. I read a write up in the "Medical Letter" which
is about "drugs" but --later

I apparently didn't save the original message, except a copy will be in
Yahoo, but I don't have time to see where I was.
Anyway, I have to go. Have you heard of Viagra. I've been
asked to do a research project on it. Elizabeth
