How was Merlin? I missed it. I really like the story but
didn't look at the TV guide and didn't know it was on.
It sounds like your morning was a real pain. What a chain of
events.
Julie has read a lot of Peck's stuff. Recently she listened to his
book on tape "In Search for Stones" about his and his wife's search for
ancient megalithic stones in the countryside of Wales, England, and
Scotland. Of course it is really about his search for spiritual,
psychological, and philosophical truths. I personally have not
read any of his books but Julie tells me all about them which is good
because I haven't been interested enough to read them but am interested
enough to want to hear about them.
Julie really hates "therapist" movies because they almost always paint
the therapist in a bad light. You are right, the X-files was more
millenium like.
Scanning has advanced a lot in the past year or two. Scanners that
used to cost 5 to 10 thousand dollars are now under 100 to 500$.
Scanning just gets a image into the computer. There is also "OCR" or
Optical Character Recognition software that takes the image and "reads"
it and generates a word processing file. OCR software has also
gotten much better and lower cost. My $150 scanner came with some
OCR software which if I scan a typed page does about a 98% accuracy.
Kinko's can scan just about anything and put the image on the disk in
several different formats. If you have a typed page, then "tiff"
format is best. For color photos like I sent you then the "JPEG"
format is best. It is really a matter of size vs quality.
Photos scanned at 600 dot per inch, 30 bit color generate files that are
several megabytes in size. JPEG compresses that down to something
more reasonable, e.g. the 139K image I sent you.
I'm glad you knee is better but what a hard tradeoff to make, good knee
vs. side effects. I don't know the dosage of the store brand but I
usually take three ibuprofen. It says to take one but three does a
much better job. Yes I've heard of Viagra, it has been all over
the paper, news and on the front of Time this week. I would be
interested in what you find out about it.
Dinner party is Saturday night. I was working on nice color menus
last night. Since our guests are not vegetarians and we are doing
an all veteran meal we thought we would give them a menu of the dishes
we are serving. I'll send you a copy when it's done.
