Subject: Week Dribbling Away
Having the final this week is regrettably sort of making this precious
week dribble away as I recover, but I have done some pretty typical
things. We had a Christmas "thing" today. (Yours sounded really
nice, but then we are the largest employer in Montgomery--we couldn't
fit in any restaurant). Last year ours was buffet style, chicken fingers
and stuff, and people sat around and stared at each other. This
time was a sit down dinner with long tables set up with tablecloths,
even, and it was much nicer in being more social. Our cafeteria is
contracted to Morrison's, so it was the routine turkey and dressing
stuff, but there was cheesecake, etc. I ate some of mine. My
friends eat at 11:30, and I went with them, but 11:30--who is hungry
then. I had to skip any sort of breakfast--usually a bagel and
cheese--so I could eat at all. Plus, they gave us a turkey last
week, but I stuck mine right in the freezer. I don't know when
I'll do it. I just wondered if you were going "home" to Florida,
but it sounds as if you might be staying there. Will you and Julie
celebrate--your situation still seems bizarre. I had forgotten you
were a December birthday. How old? I forget (sorry, I just
remember you are younger than I.) I found out the IMAX Everest
film is no longer in Birmingham, so I am disappointed. That was
one of my mini-plans--it is about a 90 minute drive. Its turned very
cold. I hate the heat in my apartment. I don't know why.
It is central air and I avoid using it as much as possible. I have
a little high powered box cube heater I set up in the bathroom if
necessary and sometimes by my bed. I don't like to be cold, but I
hate warm dry air to breath. I tried to find some pansies
yesterday, but couldn't. I never do winter flowers and I'm not
sure I get enough sun for them. They are gorgeous around town and
do so well in the cold. I love the deep purple ones.
Sometimes I pinch a few from places to keep in a little vase. I'm
very tired and rambling. I've been playing a CD all day, which is
nice.
Many times I am alone in here so it's company of sorts. Well, we
are at war, though not technically. I've looked at some of the
pictures. I don't know why Iraq is acting the way they are.
It seems so hopeless on their part, but it makes me afraid that they
might retaliate with domestic terrorism here--I've always thought they
would get smart and blow up Disney World or something to really strike
at the "Americans."
